Bam Smack Pow comic book tournament: Strength and power!

Bam Smack Pow comic book tournament: Strength and power!

As someone who’s spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of Marvel Comics, I must say this match-up of titans is as enthralling as a thrilling battle royale! The cosmic entity Venom, with his nearly indestructible form, goes up against Poison Ivy, the plant controlling queen. While Venom’s resistance to mind control is impressive, Ivy’s command over flora and fauna gives her the upper hand in this fight. It’s like a garden gnome taking on Godzilla – beautiful but not quite a fair match!

We’ve moved onto a new stage in the TopMob comic book competition. The latest bout focused on extraordinary individuals – those whose powers are so potent that they can’t engage in other battles, but their might isn’t quite enough to place them among the heroes or villains. Some of the outcomes were surprising!

Let’s take a look at them:

  • John Constantine over Johnny Storm (79% to 21%)
  • Charles Xavier over Shazam (82% to 18%)
  • Iceman over Hyperion (73% to 27%)
  • Reverse Flash over Emma Frost (64% to 36%)
  • Kang The Conqueror over the Invisible Woman (58% to 42%)
  • Starfire over Vision (65% to 44%)
  • Doctor Fate over Spawn (62% to 38%)
  • Martian Manhunter over Atom Eve (61% to 39%)

In the first round, we’ve encountered a mix of superheroes, villains, fighters, and intellectuals. This group is filled with individuals whose powers are potent, yet their capabilities are so diverse that it proved challenging to categorize them appropriately.

Breaking down the battles

Bam Smack Pow comic book tournament: Strength and power!

1. Rogue vs 16. Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes)

Rogue is the most popular person in this tournament by a mile. However, popularity doesn’t always win these fights. With Blue Beetle’s abilities, Jaime Reyes could defeat Rogue.

2. Aquaman vs 15. Doctor Voodoo

Aquaman is underrated because people assume all he does is talk to fish. Meanwhile, he’s among the strongest members of the Justice League. However, Brother Voodoo was powerful enough to be Sorcerer Supreme. It’ll be interesting to see who gets the votes.

3. Marvel Hercules vs 14. Marvel or DC Comics’ Ares

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, when it comes to raw power, I’d be hard-pressed to find someone stronger than Hercules in my world. He managed to overpower the Hulk, which speaks volumes about his might. But let’s switch universes for a moment and consider Ares of DC Comics. If the war conditions are intense enough, he might just have what it takes to give Superman a run for his money. So who would come out on top? Well, that’s a battle I’d pay good money to watch!

Initially, this was going to be Marvel Comics’ Ares, but DC’ is a better match.

4. The Thing vs 13. Carnage

Could Carnage’s symbiote-crafted tendrils and weaponry be strong enough to penetrate The Thing (Ben Grimm)’s tough skin? If they come into close contact and The Thing manages to grab him, what follows – does the battle end there or can Carnage find a way to escape from his grip?

This battle could truly go any way.

5. Poison Ivy vs 12. Venom

In a world where Poison Ivy held sway over almost every individual, there was one exception – Batman. He had prepared for such an eventuality, given his status as Batman. Could the power set of Poison Ivy affect Venom, or would his virtually cosmic physique prove resistant to her control?

Even if Venom manages to withstand her mind control, she possesses much more than just that ability. With her command over vegetation, she could easily overwhelm him.

6. Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze) vs 11. Luke Cage

To be frank, there’s a bit of an imbalance here. Ghost Rider’s powers are comparable to those of the Hulk. However, Luke Cage has faced off against Count Nefaria and boasts about being divine. As for the Penance Stare, it’s uncertain if it would affect Luke Cage, given his unblemished soul in Marvel Comics. It’s a mystery what might happen.

7. Colossus vs 10. Juggernaut

Over the course of several decades in Marvel Comics, Colossus and Juggernaut have clashed frequently. Typically, it’s Cain Marko (Juggernaut) who emerges victorious. However, has Colossus acquired enough knowledge from their numerous battles to secure a victory? Is Juggernaut still invincible, or could Colossus win due to his popularity among fans?

8. Dracula vs 9. Miles Morales

Dracula’s reinterpretation (in a sense) reveals his powers and skills are beyond measurement. Miles Morales’ Venom-based moves appear almost like a secret code, even shaping a sword with them. Yet, does this alone give him the upper hand against the Master Vampire?

How were the brackets created?

In simpler terms, imagine each showdown is similar to a matchup in a sports tournament. The character at the top battles the one at the bottom, the second takes on the second-to-last, and so on. Just because a character is last doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the weakest. Factors like significant wins, unique powers, and popularity are all taken into account in our selection process.

The reason popularity plays a significant role in rankings is straightforward: A less well-known character doesn’t receive the same level of visibility as others. For instance, Wonder Woman consistently features prominently in major DC storylines not just because she’s an exceptional fighter and one of the strongest characters in comics, but also due to her widespread fan adoration. On the other hand, a character like Invincible, who becomes an excellent hero and one of the strongest in the comic world, might not be as visible to the general public since he hasn’t been around for as long as many others on the list. Despite his popularity, this lack of visibility matters significantly.

Later on, one key aspect to consider is the character’s personality. A character isn’t simply defined by their abilities. Victor von Doom, for instance, possesses immense intellect that should have made him the Sorcerer Supreme long ago. However, his arrogance often leads him to defeat against Reed Richards. This trait is crucial in understanding why they continually clash. Characters like John Constantine also fall into the category of being both heroes and anti-heroes. While he may not be as skilled a magician as Doctor Strange, his willingness to resort to underhanded tactics and use others for his own gain sets him apart. This is an aspect that needs to be taken into account when evaluating these characters.

Happy voting, readers!
