The Mandalorian & Grogu confirmed runtime makes it one of the shortest Star Wars movies yet

Okay, so I just heard the runtime for the new Star Wars movie, and I’m hyped! It’s called The Mandalorian and Grogu, and it’s coming out in May. Apparently, Jon Favreau wrote it with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor. Basically, it’s going to follow Din Djarin – you know, the Mandalorian – and Grogu (aka Baby Yoda!) on some seriously dangerous adventure. Can’t wait!

The new film arrives in theaters on May 22nd and is the shortest Star Wars movie in over four decades, lasting 132 minutes. It’s only a minute longer than Episode VI: Return of the Jedi from 1983, which ran for 131 minutes.

When ranking the Star Wars films by how long they are, The Mandalorian and Grogu clocks in at two hours and 12 minutes, making it slightly longer than Rogue One: A Star Wars Story but shorter than Return of the Jedi. It’s a total of 133 minutes long.

The new movie will introduce several fresh faces who team up with Pascal’s bounty hunter and Grogu as they begin a new mission.

After the fall of the Galactic Empire, the New Republic asks Din Djarin and Grogu to find Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son, who is voiced by actor Jeremy Allen White (known for his role in The Bear). They must rescue Rotta to get valuable information about what the Hutt clan is planning against the New Republic.

I was super excited to see Sigourney Weaver in this too! She’s a legend, and it’s awesome she’s part of another big franchise after being in movies like Avatar and Alien. She really knows how to pick the cool projects!

The actor best known for his role in Ghostbusters plays Ward, a colonel who commands the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers. He used to be a pilot fighting with the Rebel Alliance.

In addition to new cast members like Martin Scorsese (who makes a brief appearance), The Mandalorian and Grogu brings back a beloved character: Embo, the Kyuzo bounty hunter from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is released in cinemas on 22 May 2026.
