Laura Henshaw responded to criticism after she filmed an episode of her podcast while nursing her new baby.
The entrepreneur, age 32, recently recorded an episode of her podcast, KICPOD, from her studio while also caring for her four-month-old son, Atlas.
While holding her new baby, Laura opened up about the difficulties of being a new mom, admitting that she and her partner haven’t always handled things perfectly and that there have been times she’s felt overwhelmed and needed extra support.
I was really surprised and honestly a little upset to see the video circulating online. Some people were leaving comments saying it wasn’t okay to see a mother breastfeeding on camera, and they were calling it inappropriate. It just seemed like a natural, beautiful moment to me, and I couldn’t understand the negativity.
Someone is being criticized for a shocking act during a podcast recording – apparently, they filmed while exposing themselves. One commenter sarcastically called it ‘brave and stunning’.
I’ve spent time with kids and know they don’t require constant attention. Could you perhaps feed your baby and then record a podcast a few minutes later? And maybe keep your breasts covered, or are you choosing to expose them?
Laura wasn’t having any of it. She quickly responded to the negative comments with a post on her Instagram Stories.
Laura explained she wasn’t being brave, just doing what any parent would do – taking care of her child. She added that she’s realizing the world often doesn’t consider the needs of mothers.
‘I’m too tired to go into why these comments on a video of my breastfeeding is so so very wrong.’
Lots of Laura’s famous followers left supportive comments.
British women’s rights activist Gina Martin shared that she initially tried to respond to sexist comments online, but then realized it wasn’t necessary. She explained, ‘We don’t need to reply to men who are sexualizing a woman while she’s simply feeding her child.’
‘Love that you are normalising breastfeeding, be proud!’ another person added.
In December, Laura and her partner Dalton welcomed their first child.
The founder of KIC announced on Instagram that she and her partner welcomed a baby boy.
I’m absolutely thrilled for them! She shared the sweetest photo of their new baby, captioning it ‘Our whole world, baby Atlas,’ and honestly, you could just feel the joy radiating from the picture. New parents are the cutest, and this photo perfectly captures that beaming, over-the-moon feeling!
Laura cradled her new baby, who was wearing an adorable blue knitted hat, in the hospital bed. Her husband of four years had his arm around her, offering comfort and support.
Last year, Laura gained attention when she publicly shared her decision to have a planned C-section.
Lauren Loughnan, the founder of Keep It Cleaner, discussed her birth plan on the KICPOD podcast with her co-host, Steph Claire Smith, back in October.
In the episode, she explained to her audience why she chose to have a C-section instead of a vaginal birth.
