I’m really excited to hear that Ruaridh Aldington is joining the cast of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy for Season 2 as a series regular! Karim Diané actually let us know during Comic-Con, which was awesome. Apparently, Aldington will be playing Keats – a young alien the cadets meet on a mission who has a really interesting secret. They end up bringing him back to the Academy, but it turns out he’s in trouble with someone and his life is at risk. I got a first glimpse of Keats, and he looks fantastic!

The new Matchbox: The Movie trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con and it could be the biggest surprise hit to come from a toy adaptation ever. Presented during Apple TV’s first Hall H panel on July 25th, the trailer showcases the action-packed film inspired by Mattel’s classic Matchbox cars. The movie boasts a famous cast, including John Cena as one of its leads.

This beloved and highly praised movie – a charming romantic comedy about a man obsessed with work who falls for a free-spirited mermaid – has won over audiences. If you want to watch it, now’s the time on Netflix, or you might have to pay extra to rent or buy it.

Burt Reynolds became hugely popular in the 1970s, starring in action-packed and gritty films that audiences loved. Movies like Deliverance and The Longest Yard are classic examples of ’70s cinema with Burt Reynolds as a leading name. He particularly excelled in what was then called “Hixploitation” – a rising genre known for its rural, often rebellious themes.

The fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds recently launched on Paramount+ with a captivating time-travel story that dramatically altered the course of Earth, Mars, and human civilization. The season aims to recapture the spirit of classic Star Trek with standalone adventures, but also features ambitious and unusual episodes, like one told entirely through puppets.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, starring Academy Award winner Holly Hunter and Emmy winner Paul Giamatti, launched in January 2026. Despite a strong cast, including established Star Trek actors like Robert Picardo as The Doctor, the show didn’t attract a large audience and was targeted by online hate groups. Paramount+ canceled the series shortly after the first season concluded in March.

The team behind the new series President Curtis held a panel at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about the show. They announced that Adult Swim has already ordered a second season! Keith David, who voices the main character (a role he also played in the original series), was there along with his co-stars Stephanie Beatriz and Jim Rash, as well as the show’s creators Dan Harmon and James Siciliano.

A spinoff series focusing on Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) has always been controversial because of their difficult history. This makes sense considering Negan killed Glenn (Steven Yeun) in the Season 7 premiere episode, ‘The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be’.
