Mercedes Kilmer, Val Kilmer’s daughter, spoke movingly about the use of artificial intelligence to recreate her late father in a recent film.
Mercedes Kilmer recently appeared on the Today show to explain and support the use of AI to recreate her late father in his new film, As Deep as the Grave.
What began as a personal challenge to work around health issues has grown into an opportunity to establish new standards. There are generally two viewpoints on this. Some, particularly those who feel less secure in their careers, understandably see AI as a threat. Many younger actors and musicians share this concern. I’m a musician myself, and I know a lot of people who are worried about it. However, I’ve also heard from more experienced and established professionals who see AI as a way to safeguard actors’ intellectual property rights. We need to address this technology directly, and simply ignoring it isn’t a practical solution. It’s much simpler to manage rights effectively by proactively licensing content.
