Tabloid TV king Maury Povich, 87, finally breaks his silence on plastic surgery and wig rumors

Maury Povich addressed longtime rumors about plastic surgery procedures and wearing wigs.

On Monday’s podcast, ‘On Par with Maury Povich,’ the 87-year-old TV host finally addressed rumors and discussions about changes in his appearance over time.

When Ricki Lake, a fellow talk show host, asked if he’d ever had plastic surgery, Maury Povich answered honestly: ‘Not at all.’

The former talk show host said he had regrets about things he didn’t do in the past, but he always held back.

Povich also insisted that he does not wear a wig and said his full head of hair is completely real.

‘I don’t know how,’ he said. ‘I mean, even my father’s hair, he lived until 92, it thinned out.’

He continued: ‘My brother’s hair thinned out. My sister has hair like yours, perfect hair.’

Lake mentioned that while discussing the idea of ‘getting better with age,’ she didn’t think her hair was flawless, but she was very thankful for it.

Not only does she ‘feel good in [her] body,’ she said she is ‘really happy.’

Lake revealed she had a face and neck lift after losing forty pounds, but confirmed she hasn’t had any other cosmetic procedures.

She had the procedure done in the summer of 2024 and recently discussed it on Povich’s podcast and in an interview last month.

She explained on the March 16th episode of The Inside Edit, gesturing to her neck, that she’d recently lost forty pounds and had excess skin as a result.

She clarified it wasn’t simply about disliking her appearance or wanting to look younger. She wasn’t bothered by her gray hair, but felt like a part of herself was missing—something that wouldn’t return.

She attributed her glowing skin and successful weight loss to a healthy lifestyle that included daily hikes in Malibu, Pilates, and a combination of intermittent fasting and a ketogenic diet prepared with the help of a personal chef.

This comes after The Maury Show concluded after 31 seasons in late 2022.

Jerry Povich, famous for using lie detectors and revealing paternity results on his talk show, has retired.

He started his podcast in March 2025 to connect with fans on a more personal level and to provide a comfortable and open environment for conversations with his guests.

He explained that many guests appeared on his talk show—which aired for more than thirty years, from 1991 to 2022—because they wanted to share and unburden themselves.

He said people felt comfortable opening up to him and trusted him as someone to talk to, as he told People magazine.

He felt like he was treated as one of the family, but he didn’t get a chance to share his own thoughts, feelings, or life story.

Povich also reflected on how he started in news journalism before becoming a talk show host.

For over thirty years, people have known me as someone who talks about specific topics on talk shows,” he said.

He reflected on a fulfilling career, emphasizing his passion for storytelling. He believes his background as a news journalist and in traditional talk shows prepared him well for success in this area.

I would never appear on camera as a traditional news anchor. This format, though, feels like the ideal way to share information.
