“Compelling” Netflix thriller branded “gripping and intense television” jumps up UK chart

The new Netflix thriller, Man on Fire, is already a hit with viewers. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, a former Special Forces captain and CIA operative, the series has quickly become popular in the UK, reaching number two in the top 10 TV shows.

The seven-episode series Man on Fire is based on the 1980 novel by A.J. Quinnell, and developed by Kyle Killen. The story begins with a violent ambush in Mexico that leaves John as the sole survivor of his team.

Four years after leaving the life, John, haunted by PTSD and battling alcohol addiction, is pulled back into action by his friend Paul Rayburn for a security job in Brazil. When that mission fails, John sets out for revenge, ultimately discovering a larger, more complex plot.

The show features Billie Boullet as Poe, Paul’s oldest daughter, Scoot McNairy as Henry Tappan, a top CIA officer, and Alice Braga as Valeria Melo, a skilled driver and close friend to John.

Paul Ben-Victor plays Moncrief, the CIA Director, and Thomás Aquino plays Prado Soares, the head of security for the Brazilian President, completing the main cast.
