Spoiler for The Devil Wears Prada 2 follow.
Okay, so I just saw The Devil Wears Prada 2 and it was amazing to see everyone from Runway back together! The movie throws them into some really tricky situations, and there’s this one big twist that totally changes everything. It was so good to revisit those characters and see what they’re up to now.
The new film, directed by David Frankel, addresses issues facing the publishing world and the growing influence of tech moguls. It features a shocking death that drives the plot forward, with Anne Hathaway reprising her role as Andy Sachs as she fights to keep Runway afloat.

Okay, so the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is really interesting! It follows Andy, who’s become a successful journalist, but then she gets laid off. She ends up going back to Runway magazine, and it’s amazing to see her reconnect with Miranda Priestley – Meryl Streep is fantastic, of course! – and also Nigel and Emily, who’s now over at Dior. It’s great to see what everyone’s up to!
The magazine is facing difficulties with fewer and fewer people reading it, and the situation becomes even more challenging when Irv Ravitz, the powerful editor and owner of Runway, unexpectedly passes away at his 75th birthday celebration.
What to Read Next
Okay, so things at Runway are seriously messed up now that Miranda’s gone. Her son, Jay, is running the show, and he’s brought in a bunch of corporate types who just talk in buzzwords and keep dropping hints about big layoffs. Plus, he’s totally flirting with this tech guy, Benji, who seems way too interested in buying the magazine, like, personally interested. It’s a whole mess, and I’m worried about everyone’s jobs!
I was reading an interview with the director, Frankel, and he explained why they decided to kill off Irv. Apparently, he and the writer from the first Devil Wears Prada movie, Aline Brosh McKenna, felt it was necessary for the story.

The director explained that when working with McKenna again, they needed a major plot change. They started brainstorming shocking possibilities, eventually deciding to kill off the character of Irv, which felt like the most logical choice.
Frankel insisted it couldn’t be as simple as someone being in a coma. He explained that Irv’s departure was necessary because the company takeover created a weakness. He compared it to Emily’s accident in the first story, saying it was an unexpected event that dramatically changed the direction of the plot in an exciting way.
Miranda was understandably shocked by the loss of her longtime colleague, but actor David Feldman, who played Irv, took the news of his character’s death in good spirits. In fact, according to director Frankel, Feldman—who also appeared in the original film—specifically requested to watch a scene depicting ‘his own funeral’.
The director remembered Tibor as a funny and wonderful person. He even attended Irv’s funeral – not to mourn, but to see how the service would be conducted! The director also mentioned a detail involving Stewart Simmons, Miranda’s husband and a violinist, who was portrayed by Kenneth Branagh.
Aside from the funny dialogue and Justin’s improvisations, the most impressive thing was that Kenneth Branagh actually learned to play the violin for the scene. He dedicated weeks to training, mastering the finger and bow techniques, and did it all very professionally. It’s him playing the violin in the scene, which is really neat, according to Frankel.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in cinemas now.
