Netflix’s Man on Fire Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Addresses Season 2 Plans

Netflix is now home to a thrilling new action series. After years in the making, the show launched and immediately became a number one hit.

Following the premiere of the series, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II discussed potential plans for a second season. This is the second time the story, originally a 1980 novel by A.J. Quinnell called Man on Fire, has been adapted for the screen, following a previous adaptation and a 1987 film. Because the show is based on a series of books, there’s plenty of material for future seasons.

Man on Fire Could Continue for Season 2

Netflix hasn’t officially said what’s happening with the long-awaited series Man on Fire. They announced plans to adapt the 1980 novel in March 2023, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Wonder Man) signed on as the main actor in June 2024. Although filming began later that year, the show only ran for a short time, premiering on April 30, 2026.

This seven-episode series is adapted from Quinnell’s 1980 novel, and also draws inspiration from the author’s 1992 sequel, The Perfect Kill, which is part of the Creasy book series. While the story could potentially continue beyond this season, and Abdul-Mateen II would be willing to return, he prefers not to speculate about renewals and will wait for an official announcement.

The actor confirmed he’s considered returning to the role, saying, ‘I’ve definitely thought about it. It would need to be for the right reasons, and I’d have to really enjoy it.’

He added that while he strives to fully love his work, enjoying it is the minimum requirement. He feels John Creasy is a fantastic character, and he’s grateful for the experience, remaining optimistic about what the future holds for the project.

I don’t spend much time worrying about what might happen in the future,” said Abdul-Mateen II. “I’m really proud of what we’ve created so far and eager to share it. We’ll deal with any challenges that come up as they arise.”
