Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Teases Kirk Brothers Team-Up After 59 Years

The fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has the potential to fulfill a long-awaited fan desire – something viewers have been hoping for since 1964. The new season will premiere on Paramount+ on Thursday, July 23rd, and will consist of 10 episodes. This marks the end of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, as the fifth and final season will be shorter, with only 6 episodes.

Paul Wesley will be back as James T. Kirk in season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The show, which follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the Starship Enterprise, is also exploring how Kirk develops into the future captain we all know.

Dan Jeannotte appears in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as Lieutenant Sam Kirk, the older brother of James T. Kirk. The show reveals that Sam Kirk was a friend of Captain Pike and actually served on the USS Enterprise before his younger brother did.

Sam & James T. Kirk Could Finally Team Up In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4

Sam and James T. Kirk have briefly met on the Starship Enterprise, but the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds offers a chance for the full team-up fans have always wanted. This wouldn’t have been possible when Sam was first introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series.

Before Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, audiences only saw Sam Manchak as a deceased character in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “Operation – Annihilate!”. Interestingly, William Shatner (who played Captain Kirk) actually portrayed the body, instead of a different actor being cast for the role.

A new image from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 shows Sam placing a hand on James’ shoulder, potentially hinting at a horror-themed episode discussed at CCXP Mexico. Fans are hoping this moment signifies a first-time team-up between Jim and Sam Kirk, where they combine their unique abilities to face a crisis – something that hasn’t happened before in Star Trek history.

In season 2, episode 6 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Sam and James, who were meeting for the first time on screen, quickly began to argue. Later, in season 3 of the same series, Jim and Sam ended up sharing a drink together, signaling a more friendly relationship.

For a while now, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has hinted that we might see James and Sam Kirk teaming up. With only 16 episodes remaining in the series, the chances of seeing the Kirk brothers work together are dwindling.

Star Trek Can Finally Explain Sam Kirk’s Pivotal Decision

As a huge Star Trek fan, I’ve always wondered about Sam Kirk! It’s been a long-held theory among us fans that he wasn’t on the Enterprise when James took command because he didn’t want to serve under his younger brother. And it looks like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season five is finally going to address that! It’s great they’re giving us the backstory on why Sam wasn’t around when James became Captain, especially since they introduced him in Strange New Worlds.

As a lifelong Trek fan, I’ve always wondered about Sam’s departure when Kirk took command. Strange New Worlds hasn’t really touched on this, but it’s easy to forget Sam has a family – a wife and kids! After years of serving with Pike, maybe he just decided it was time to prioritize being a husband and father. It feels like a perfectly reasonable, and honestly, quite touching, reason to leave Starfleet.

Sam Kirk might also leave the Enterprise because of Lieutenant Spock (Ethan Peck). Spock doesn’t usually show his feelings, but he’s made it clear he doesn’t like Sam. The idea of serving under Spock, who will be Captain Kirk’s second-in-command, could be enough to make Sam decide to leave Starfleet and find a different job.

Paul Wesley and Dan Jeannotte, who play James and Sam Kirk, have great on-screen chemistry, instantly making viewers believe they’re brothers. Fans have been hoping for a deeper exploration of their relationship for decades, and season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will hopefully deliver the Kirk brother team-up they’ve been waiting for.
