Sinbad is coming back to stand-up comedy after taking a break of almost five years due to a stroke.
A 69-year-old comedian shared a video on Instagram Wednesday announcing his excitement about performing at two sold-out shows at the Comedy Ice House in Pasadena, California.
The Michigan-born performer said this is only the start of their return to performing, as seen in a video clip of their shows—one scheduled for Wednesday and another on May 10th.
Comedian Sinbad, whose full name is David Adkins, recently shared details about the challenges he’s facing with his health, including his need to use a wheelchair.
Comedian Sinbad, known for movies like ‘Jingle All the Way’ (1996) and ‘Houseguest’ (1995), hasn’t performed on stage since suffering a stroke in 2020. He says he’s really excited about his upcoming shows.
‘I got so much stuff to talk about. I’m gonna be talking more trash than I ever talked.’
Sinbad explained in his post that some moments are best savored and shouldn’t be forced. He felt tonight was one of those times, and he was simply waiting for the right moment.
Thank you to The Icehouse for arranging this event – I’m so excited to be back! It feels like forever since we’ve all been together, and I can’t wait to see everyone tonight.
In a video message to his fans, he expressed gratitude for their prayers, saying they had helped him through a difficult time.
In a recent announcement, Sinbad shared he’s returning to the stage and will be joined by family. He’ll be performing with his daughter, fellow comedian Paige Bryan, and his regular opening act, Chase Anthony, marking the first time he’s shared the stage with his daughter.
The actor known for playing Coach Walter Oakes on ‘A Different World’ joked that his daughter is even more playfully competitive than he is.
Bryan shared on Instagram that participating in her father’s return to performing felt incredibly meaningful, more than she could fully express.
She announced she’d be the opening act for her father, a famous comedian, as he returns to perform at the iconic Ice House venue tonight.
Bryan opened up about the challenges her parent has faced amid his health woes.
My dad has only seen me perform comedy twice since I started. It’s mostly because most comedy clubs aren’t accessible for people with disabilities, so he physically can’t get inside.
It’s been really tough going through this without my number one supporter, so tonight feels incredibly special – it’s a moment I’ll never forget and will always treasure.
Rosie O’Donnell made reference to both of their stints on the 1980s talent series Star Search.
She wrote, ‘Hello u – rosie od from star search- so happy to hear ur back on stage – so much love.’
As someone who keeps an eye on what’s trending in entertainment, it was so heartwarming to see the love flowing for Sinbad! Steve Harvey publicly called him a ‘LIVING LEGEND,’ which is pretty amazing, and Cedric The Entertainer simply shared his affection, calling Sinbad ‘my brother.’ It just goes to show the impact he’s had on so many people – a true testament to a fantastic career and a genuinely good person!
Baseball great Darryl Strawberry recently shared a message of support for Sinbad, expressing his love and prayers for the comedian’s health, strength, and comfort.
‘May the Lord grant you with good health and happiness. Blessings.’
