Rafe Spall’s near-perfect comedy series branded “so addictive” confirms new-season release date

The popular Apple TV+ comedy Trying, which follows Rafe Spall and Esther Smith as a couple trying to start a family, will be back for a fifth season this summer. Apple TV+ has just released some sneak peek photos from the new season.

The series, created by Andy Wolton and debuting in 2020, centers on Nikki and Jason, a couple determined to have a family but facing difficulties getting pregnant. It follows their emotional journey as they explore adoption and eventually welcome siblings Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler (Cooper Turner) into their lives.

The fifth season of the show premieres on Apple TV on July 8th and centers around Nikki and Jason as they navigate the challenges caused by the unexpected arrival of Kat – the biological mother of Princess and Tyler – and her involvement in their family.

Season 5 will feature new cast members Celia Imrie, known for The Thursday Murder Club, Gbemisola Ikumelo, and Colin Morgan. Siân Brooke and Darren Boyd will return as Nikki’s sister Karen and her husband Scott, respectively.

Critics love ‘Trying’! It consistently scores well on Rotten Tomatoes, with seasons 2 and 4 achieving a perfect 100% rating. Season 3 currently has too few reviews to qualify for a ‘Fresh’ rating, although all four reviews are positive. The first season is ‘Certified Fresh’ with an 88% score based on 25 reviews.
