“Highly-anticipated” crime drama set in Miami’s “neon-lit underbelly” lands UK streaming date – and it’s soon

The new crime drama, M.I.A., will be available to stream in the UK soon! Created by a co-creator of Ozark, Bill Dubuque, the show is generating a lot of excitement. It tells the story of a woman navigating a risky path through the dangerous side of Miami.

UK viewers can start watching on May 7th with Paramount+, and the series will be available on Peacock in the US.

The series features Shannon Gisela, known from Strip Law, as Etta Tiger Jonze. Etta longs for a glamorous life in Miami, but she’s currently stuck in the Florida Keys, where her family is involved in drug trafficking.

I was completely hooked when things went south for Etta’s business – it just shattered! From there, she found herself on this incredibly risky adventure through the dark side of Miami, and honestly, it’s that journey that really shows you who she is and what she’s made of. It’s a total game-changer for her.

The film M.I.A. boasts a strong supporting cast, with familiar faces like Cary Elwes (from Stranger Things), Danay Garcia (Fear the Walking Dead), Brittany Adebumola (What If…?), Dylan Jackson (Godfather of Harlem), Alberto Guerra (Griselda), Maurice Compte (Narcos), Gerardo Celasco (Pulse), and Marta Milans (Shazam!).

Karen Campbell, known for her work on Outlander, is the showrunner for the new nine-episode series. Alethea Jones, who directed Spider Noir, will direct the first two episodes, followed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton, Mairzee Almas, Ben Semanoff, and John Dahl directing subsequent episodes.

Dubuque is no stranger to crime dramas, having recently hosted the production of Ozark, which finished its run on Netflix four years ago.

The show, which ran for four seasons, followed a couple – played by Jason Bateman and Laura Linney – who relocated to the Lake of the Ozarks to continue washing money for a drug cartel. It also helped launch Julia Garner’s career, and featured performances by Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Jordana Spiro, and Jason Butler Harner.

Looking for a new crime drama? BBC’s Mint is already popular on iPlayer. It’s a story about a gangster’s daughter who falls in love with someone from a rival family, and features Emma Laird (from The Brutalist) and the musician Loyle Carner (Ben Coyle-Larner) in the cast.

M.I.A. debuts on 7 May on Paramount+ in the UK.
