Sara Cox lands another bumper BBC contract after being announced as Scott Mills’ Radio 2 replacement

Sara Cox will be taking over from Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2, and has signed a new, substantial contract with the network.

I’m so thrilled for her! It seems like the network really sees something special in this presenter – she’s become their new star, and they’ve just given her a contract to host a new series called ‘The Marvellous Miniature Workshop.’ At 51, it’s fantastic to see her getting this opportunity!

I’m so excited! I just read in The Mirror that our favorite show is coming back with double the episodes! And get this – each episode is going to be longer, going from 30 minutes to a full 45 minutes. I can’t wait!

I’m absolutely thrilled to see the incredible support for Sara! Someone close to the production told me she’s really connecting with viewers, and the BBC is fully behind her – it’s fantastic news and a real vote of confidence in her talent.

The show follows Sara and a team of skilled model makers as they build incredibly detailed miniature versions of places that are special to people. The first season premiered last year and was well-received by critics.

Sara shared her excitement about the new season of Marvellous Miniature Workshop, calling it the most heartwarming and wonderful show she’s ever worked on.

I’m really looking forward to hearing more stories and rediscovering forgotten memories, and seeing our talented model-makers recreate places that have been lost or forgotten.

On March 30th, the BBC announced it had fired Scott, age 53, after 28 years with the company. The dismissal reportedly followed allegations of a past relationship.

The Mirror reported that the firing of Mills was connected to a 2016 police investigation involving alleged serious sexual offenses against a teenager that occurred between 1997 and 2000.

The case was dropped around seven years ago due to a lack of evidence.

The BBC announced it has canceled all future projects with the presenter, including their planned coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

Since 2011, Scott has regularly commented on Eurovision’s semi-finals, which are broadcast on BBC One the week before the grand final.

He’s recently been working with Rylan Clark on the shows, and also hosted live commentary for the Eurovision final on BBC Radio 2.

Sara will be taking over the role, having previously commentated on the semi-finals on the radio last year with former commentator Rylan.

As a huge Eurovision fan, I’m so excited to share that the 2026 final will be held in Vienna, Austria on May 16th! The semi-finals are scheduled for May 12th and 14th, so mark your calendars – it’s going to be an amazing show!

As a lifestyle expert, I often see beautiful connections form in the workplace, and Scott and Sara were a prime example. They were really close colleagues, and Scott recently went above and beyond to support Sara’s amazing work with Children in Need – he even shared a really heartfelt message about her dedication. It was lovely to see!

Last November, he shared a photo with Sara and wrote, ‘WHAT. A. HERO. So proud of @djsaracox!’

The Daily Mail reported that the person who accused Scott of sexual assault, allegedly occurring in the 1990s, was a minor – under the age of 16 – at the time of the alleged offences.

Police questioned Mills, who was 24 years old at the time the accusations were made, under caution in 2018.

Detectives at Scotland Yard investigated a man in his 40s, but the Crown Prosecution Service decided there wasn’t enough evidence to pursue the case. The investigation was closed in 2019.

The Daily Mail suggests the person who made the complaint might have been prompted to come forward again this year because of the recent Huw Edwards documentary.

Okay, so here’s what I’m hearing – and it’s pretty interesting. Apparently, inside the BBC, people are suggesting that the individual at the center of recent news may have approached them because of all the attention surrounding the Martin Clunes documentary, ‘Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards’. It seems the publicity from that program might have played a role in their decision to come forward.

I was really shocked to hear that Mills was let go just six days after his last show on Radio 2. It happened so quickly – he was taken off air right after that Tuesday broadcast, which was also the day the Channel 5 show came out. It all felt very sudden.
