Country star Zach Bryan recently responded to a fan who criticized him for a shorter-than-expected concert. The concert was cut short because of lightning, but Bryan addressed the fan’s complaint directly.
Bryan, age 30, called out a frustrated fan as a ‘Karen’ after the fan demanded refunds for concertgoers who missed part of his Saturday show in Lincoln, Nebraska. The missed songs were due to unsafe weather conditions.
Bryan, whose former girlfriend Brianna Chickenfry is involved in the public drama between Alex Cooper and Alix Earle, shared a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) Saturday night. The screenshot showed a set list he’d received as a text message, and it had a heart emoji next to it.
I apologize for having to end the show early tonight! A sudden thunderstorm rolled in quickly. We only missed the final six songs. I appreciate you all, and even though it rained, it was a lot of fun!
A screenshot seemed to reveal the initial planned setlist, not the one actually performed. However, fans compiling setlists noticed seven songs – Bad News, East Side Of Sorrow, Motorcycle Drive By, Torniquet, Heading South, Fifth Of May, and Slicked Back – were cut because of problems with the lighting setup.
Fans shared their frustration online about the concert being rained out, with many having to wait in their cars until it was safe to go back. However, one particular comment seemed to especially bother Bryan.
One user responded to Bryan’s setlist post, saying they were very disappointed with the show because they only received about half of what was expected, despite acknowledging that much of the issue wasn’t Bryan’s fault, and requesting a partial refund.
When a user corrected them about the number of songs cut due to weather, they replied that Bryan had quickly played through the rest of his set.
I was really bummed to hear that a lot of us didn’t get to see Kings of Leon play their full set. Apparently, the weather delays meant they had to cut their performance short, and so many fans were disappointed – myself included!
Bryan didn’t seem bothered by those comments and simply responded to the post with, ‘Karen ahhhh tweet.’
He shared a message from a fan who pointed out that people were blaming him for something he couldn’t control, and praised his performance as ‘great’.
Bryan strongly defended himself by sharing a photo taken from the audience showing the concert stage.
A bright flash of lightning illuminated the sky right over the stage, lighting up the entire venue. Fans wearing raincoats and ponchos did their best to stay dry during the storm.
‘there were f***n lightning bolts?? Above?? Our?? Heads??’ he wrote of the chilling experience.
Most fans reacted positively to the country singer, especially after he shared a picture of lightning above the concert stage. However, one fan appeared upset with his decision to explain himself.
They were furious, writing that it was a terrible response to a fan who likely waited all night to see the show and its opening acts. They added that they spent over a thousand dollars on tickets and waited in their car for more than four hours.
The frustrated concertgoer said there was very little communication from both the stadium and Zach Bryan, and described the response to the severe weather as unacceptable.
Bryan shared the post and again wrote, ‘Karen ahhhh tweet,’ prompting many of his followers to come to his defense.
One fan pointed out that he was constantly sharing updates yesterday, adding that it’s silly to think he has control over the weather.
In fact, Bryan’s feed on X shows multiple updates on weather delays throughout Saturday.
He explained in a post to his over 679,000 followers that they’ve never minded the rain, but always make sure to avoid lightning to keep everyone safe.
This latest issue with his show being delayed follows the cancellation of a previous concert Bryan had scheduled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, earlier this month.
This cancellation, caused by the weather, was a first – it was the first time one of his shows had ever been cancelled because of a dangerous storm.
He posted on Instagram soon after the show was canceled, saying he upset a lot of people by trying to perform despite the circumstances.
Honestly, if it were up to me, everything would be perfect. I just… I’m so sorry if things aren’t, but please know I adore all of you guys so much!
Bryan explained that he’s never had to cancel a performance before, but circumstances are forcing him to do so this time. He and the team apologize for any disruption this causes and thank everyone for their understanding.
