2026 Officially Marks The Start Of An Era For Spider-Man 2 Months Before Brand New Day

Spider-Man will be back in a big way in 2026, with different versions of the character appearing in live-action films. One of these versions will kick off a new chapter for the hero leading into the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 2026 is set to be a huge year for Marvel Studios, with two highly anticipated movies scheduled for release.

The upcoming Marvel projects are Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. There’s talk that Tobey Maguire might appear in Avengers: Doomsday, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will likely make at least a brief appearance. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will focus on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man, with Peter Parker teaming up with characters like Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and reportedly, Jean Grey, played by Sadie Sink.

It’s a great time to be a Spider-Man fan! The next Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Spider-Man movie promises a thrilling adventure, picking up after the world forgot Peter Parker thanks to Doctor Strange’s spell. But that’s not the only Spider-Man project on the way. Surprisingly, the next live-action Spider-Man film isn’t actually part of the MCU.

The new live-action Spider-Man series, starring Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly (also known as Spider-Man Noir), will premiere on MGM+ on May 25th. All eight episodes will then be available on Prime Video starting May 27th. Cage previously voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and this series represents a significant shift for the franchise with a live-action take on a different version of the hero.

Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Has Unique Webs In His Live-Action Debut

A new trailer for the upcoming Spider-Noir series was revealed at CCXP Mexico 2026, where ScreenRant was present. The trailer confirmed that Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir will use black webs. Viewers will be able to watch the Prime Video series in classic black and white, or in full color. The color version of the trailer shows Spider-Noir using black webs to capture two criminals.

This is a first for live-action Spider-Man movies. Previous Spider-Man projects – including older TV shows and the films starring Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland – always used white webs. Even when Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man became the symbiote in Spider-Man 3, his webs remained white. That makes Shameik Moore’s Spider-Noir unique – it’s the first time we’ve seen black webs in a live-action Spider-Man story.

Spider-Noir Is The Perfect Spider-Man Release To Break Live-Action Patterns

If any live-action Spider-Man would use black webs and take risks, it would likely be Nicolas Cage’s version. The upcoming Spider-Man series on Prime Video is a great opportunity to explore new ideas with the character, because it isn’t connected to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe or any established film franchise, and it features a Spider-Man who isn’t the traditional Peter Parker.

Although Spider-Man Noir is typically portrayed as an alternate version of Peter Parker in the comics, the Prime Video series Spider-Noir has made a significant change by casting Oscar Isaac as Ben Reilly instead. This immediately sets the show apart from traditional Spider-Man stories. Given that it’s been a long time since a live-action Spider-Man TV series, this project feels like a great opportunity to try something new and unconventional, particularly with Isaac in the lead role.

Tom Holland is expected to continue playing Spider-Man for years to come, and fans can even see a traditional version of Peter Parker this July in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. That makes the unique concept of Spider-Noir – with its dark, 1930s setting, black webs, and a different Spider-Man named Ben – a welcome addition. It’s a fresh take on familiar villains like Black Cat and Sandman, and ultimately makes the Spider-Man universe more exciting and visually appealing.
