To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Felicia Day’s popular web series, The Guild, is getting a movie! Day shared a video today announcing a signup for updates about The Guild: The Movie, which will bring the original cast back together.
The video features a reunion with the main cast of The Guild, including Vincent Caso, Jeff Lewis, Amy Okuda, Sandeep Parikh, and Robin Thorsen. Felicia Day has the script ready, and now they just need funding to start filming the movie.
The video reveals that fans who sign up for updates on The Guild: The Movie will get to help shape the upcoming Kickstarter campaign. They’ll be able to vote in polls to decide what rewards backers receive and what extra features will be added if the campaign exceeds its funding goal.
What Is The Guild About?
Day created the web series The Guild, which centers around Cyd Sherman, a character Day also plays. In real life, Day was a former child star struggling with unemployment and an addiction to an online video game. The series follows Cyd and her relationships with other players in the game, specifically her ‘guild.’ When one of her guildmates, Zaboo (played by Parikh), unexpectedly shows up at her house, Cyd is forced to bring the group together in person, leading to some uncomfortable and humorous situations.
The Guild was a surprisingly popular web series and one of the first scripted shows to find real success online, launching Felicia Day’s career and leading to future projects. The early episodes primarily featured the show’s characters interacting through webcam while playing an online game. As the series grew, it received larger budgets, culminating in a season filmed at Comic-Con. Actor Wil Wheaton became a regular guest star, and other celebrities like Zachary Levi and Nathan Fillion made appearances.
Day wrote most of the series, with artwork by Jim Rugg. She also created a music video for her song “Do You Want to Date My Avatar?” and turned the story into a musical that she performed at conventions.
The Guild Celebrates 20 Years
In a message to fans on the website for The Guild: The Movie updates, Felicia Day explained that she created The Guild in 2007 because she felt Hollywood didn’t understand gamers. She wanted to show everyone that real friendships could develop online and that people interested in gaming and other hobbies—often called ‘geeks’ or ‘nerds’—could be the heroes of their own stories, not just the butt of jokes. She credits the enthusiastic fan community with making that happen for six seasons and expressed her lasting gratitude.
Can you believe it’s almost our 20th anniversary in 2027? With your help, we’re planning another event to show Hollywood what we’re made of, stay focused on what we all enjoy, and have a ton of fun. I’m really excited to reunite everyone – and I guarantee we’ll still be delightfully chaotic!
