Ninestudios Games has released early access to their new arcade endless runner, The Old Man & the Demon Sword, on Android. The game is based on the popular fantasy-comedy film of the same name by Fábio Powers. Details about a release on iOS or a wider global launch haven’t been announced yet.

Cut through waves of evil creatures with your demon sword to save the village

Unlike the movie, which mixes fantasy, comedy, horror, and action, the game The Old Man & the Demon Sword is an endless runner. You play as Tonho, and together with his demon sword (which happens to be possessed!), you’ll fight against evil forces that are endangering a small village.

I’m really enjoying the game’s pixelated style and the nostalgic feeling it evokes. The gameplay looks great too, with lots of action – you can jump, dash, attack, and defend against hordes of enemies called Fears. Plus, you’ll need to change up your strategy depending on the enemy, which keeps things interesting and lets you play at your own speed.

As the game gets harder, it definitely won’t become repetitive, challenging both your abilities and when you time your attacks. I recommend giving it a try to see if you enjoy the classic endless runner style, the competitive leaderboard, the great artwork from Spaniard Animation Studios, and the music by Zé Consciência.
