The popular Telegram username @boss was recently sold for 500,000 USDT. The sale, which happened on Monday, transferred ownership of the highly sought-after username to a new, anonymous digital wallet.
The sale completed quickly with a single transaction on the TON network. The payment of 500,000 USDT was made using two separate transfers, as shown on the Tonviewer blockchain explorer.
A $500,000 USDT Sale on Telegram
Someone originally purchased the @boss username in November 2022 during the first sales of Fragments for 40,000 Toncoin, which was equivalent to about $64,000. Now, after about three and a half years, reselling it would result in a profit eight times the original investment.
Telegram introduced a way to buy and sell usernames using Fragment in late 2022. These usernames are stored as unique digital assets called NFTs on the TON blockchain, meaning Telegram can’t take them away.
Owners can list and resell handles on secondary marketplaces such as GetGems.

A Premium Handle Market
Simple, memorable usernames – like @boss, @news, and @crypto – are highly sought after and can sell for large sums of money. People see them as valuable for building a brand and establishing an online identity. For example, @news reportedly sold for around $1.7 million in 2022.
Telegram’s Fragment platform has quickly become popular, selling usernames worth 50 million dollars in under a month. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced in 2022 that the platform would soon offer more than just usernames.
The online username @danbao was sold for $2.2 million in February 2026. Before that, in 2025, someone offered $25 million to buy the @crypto username, which had previously been purchased for $350,000.
As a researcher tracking digital asset trends, I’ve just observed a new record sale on the Fragment platform. The Telegram username @danbao, which translates to “guarantor/escrow” in Chinese, sold for an incredible 1,583,948 TON, equivalent to approximately $2.2 million. This is now the most expensive Telegram username ever sold, surpassing the previous record holder, @news, which went for $1.78 million. The auction was highly competitive, with intense bidding throughout yesterday from several large Chinese investors.

Since 2024, we’ve seen a big increase in NFT trading on Telegram, largely because of its special connection with the TON blockchain.
The username @boss could either be adopted for branding purposes or put up for sale again. Either outcome would show how much demand there still is for valuable usernames.
