David Haye at risk of being cancelled after I’m A Celebrity bullying row brings controversial comments about gang rape and racial hate crimes back to light

David Haye’s behavior on ‘I’m A Celebrity‘ has caused controversy, with some people calling for him to face consequences. This comes as past controversial statements he’s made are resurfacing.

The 48-year-old former boxer sparked controversy while appearing on a show in South Africa. He was criticized for making offensive comments about women and people’s weight, and for allegedly bullying fellow contestant Adam Thomas, who ultimately won the competition.

During Friday’s live final, Ant and Dec playfully criticized David’s controversial views on women. He then aggressively confronted Adam, questioning whether Adam was worthy of winning the competition.

Filming quickly became chaotic, and the stressful atmosphere led to Gemma Collins and Sinitta angrily leaving the set.

Honestly, things are really heating up right now, and a clip from 2010 of David is circulating online that’s causing a lot of outrage. In it, he doubled down on a really disturbing comparison – he said his fight with Audley Harrison would be ‘as one-sided as a gang rape’ and refused to apologize for the statement. It’s understandably causing a huge reaction.

His comments sparked outrage from women’s organizations and charities, and now people on X are also voicing their surprise and disapproval.

People on Twitter reacted with shock and disbelief to a clip circulating online. Comments included questioning if David Haye had ruined his reputation, expressing disbelief at what they were seeing, and simply exclaiming shock and surprise.

I’m still shocked this actually happened. I had to replay it to believe my ears. Thankfully, he’s never seemed to have any issues before, because the way he acted was awful. Hayes is simply a terrible bully, and that needs to be said.

Yet it’s far from the only controversial remark David made at the height of his boxing career.

Before his 2007 fight with Jean-Marc Mormeck, he boldly stated he would defeat Mormeck so severely it would be reminiscent of the Rodney King beating.

This refers to the 1991 beating of a Black man by four white officers with the Los Angeles Police Department. The incident, documented in official reports, brought serious problems with police brutality and racial bias to light.

David also faced criticism for his threat to Tony Bellew, saying he would violently attack him.

He admitted he’d never felt such intense anger in a fight before. He explained that while he usually aims to knock an opponent out, in this case, he genuinely wanted to inflict serious harm.

I was absolutely horrified to hear that David used a deeply offensive and ableist slur – he actually said ‘You’re all fing retards’ during a Liverpool press conference. It was incredibly upsetting and unacceptable.

There were reports that David was using artificial intelligence to review his speeches and social media posts, making sure they didn’t contain any offensive language.

However, on I’m A Celebrity, David didn’t have the same support system and sparked controversy with his divisive remarks. For example, he boasted about dating a woman he described as ‘lovely’ but with a ‘terrible personality,’ which upset many viewers.

David explained that he believes women considered less attractive often have more appealing personalities, suggesting their wit and humor draw attention away from their physical appearance.

Okay, so I was totally glued to the TV when my hero, the boxing champ, started talking about his amazing girlfriend, Sian! But honestly? Scarlett and Ashley looked like they’d seen a ghost! Their faces were priceless – they were clearly shocked by what he was saying. I couldn’t believe it, but I was living for the drama!

He suggested having a get-together afterwards, mentioning Sian is a great cook and can cater for around sixty people. He added that they often host parties like this in Costa Rica.

Pussycat Dolls star Ashley interjected: ‘Who is this woman?’

In response, David went on to describe her as: ‘Tall, blue eyes…’

Sinitta then said: ‘She sounds like she’s drop dead gorgeous.’

David replied: ‘She’s lovely, she’s got the personality of a proper ugly bird.’

A gobsmacked Scarlett said: ‘You can’t say that, David! You can’t say that’, laughing in disbelief.

When Scarlett and Ashley pressed him to explain, David said that many women who don’t consider themselves traditionally attractive develop strong personalities, using wit and humor to connect with others.

‘People overlook the fact they’re not aesthetically amazing straight away.

Have you heard of the ‘Ugly Duckling Syndrome’? It describes girls who weren’t considered attractive when they were younger, but grow into their looks as they get older. The idea is that even after they become physically attractive, they still carry the insecurities or behaviors they developed when they felt unattractive.

David surprised many viewers when he chose to send veteran Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard, 69, to the more challenging Savannah Scrub camp at the start of the show.

Some viewers criticized him for allegedly making hurtful comments about Gemma Collins’ weight, suggesting he implied she needed to eat more than him.

He also faced accusations of bullying fellow contestant Adam, following several critical comments shown on the show. One instance included him calling the actor ‘useless’ after Adam explained he couldn’t participate in a challenge due to health reasons.

Adam has since said he has been having therapy because the row ‘f***ed with him.’

David has explained his remarks to Adam, calling them playful banter. He also suggested that Adam is exaggerating the impact of the situation on him to attract public sympathy.

The athlete stated that he and Adam were fine after the event, and he’d talked to Adam only the day before this interview.

Let me tell you, things got heated during the live final! David really put Adam on the spot, questioning if he felt he deserved the win after using a pretty awful slur against Jimmy. And you know what? Adam stood his ground, confidently saying he absolutely did deserve it, especially after that tough challenge. It was a really bold moment, and definitely sparked some conversation!

David suggested, “Maybe you should ask Jimmy if he feels he earned the win? A lot of relevant footage was left on the cutting room floor.” He quickly added, “I really like Jimmy, but it seems like Adam is playing the victim in all of this.”

Dec hit back: ‘David, you were gone. You weren’t even there!’

“Just let the finalists speak!” Adam exclaimed as Gemma reached out to restrain David, and the studio descended into uproar.

On Thursday’s This Morning, David challenged Adam, accusing him of pretending to be a victim. This came after Adam claimed David had bullied him while they both appeared on I’m A Celebrity South Africa.

David recently discussed a difficult experience on This Morning, mentioning that some people, like Adam, had gone through incredibly tough times. He jokingly questioned how easy Adam’s life had been, implying it was a particularly challenging situation for him.

I got along with everyone, including Adam. We’ve continued to talk since then, but I believe he contributed to the bullying situation. It seems like he’s trying to portray himself as the victim, even during the legal proceedings.

Adam has psoriatic arthritis, an autoimmune disease, which made it hard for him to deal with tiredness and a lack of fluids while he was in the jungle.

David admitted to pretending to be ill whenever a court date approached, explaining that the illness seemed to conveniently appear right before those dates.

‘He’s a super sweet guy, but I think he hams up, he’s a professional victim.’
