Lily-Rose Depp lifts the lid on the secrets behind the making of Nosferatu – from THAT dripping eye blood to mastering haunted choreography in a corset
As I delve into the captivating life experiences of this talented actor or actress, I am left in awe at the depth and breadth of their journey in the realm of cinema. The account provided paints a vivid picture of an individual who has not only mastered the art of acting but also embraced the challenges that come with it, from perfecting an accent to enduring physically demanding scenes for the sake of authenticity.
Lily-Rose Depp has revealed some intriguing insights into the production process of her eagerly awaited vampire movie, Nosferatu.
In this fresh rendition, Bill Skarsgård assumes the chilling character of Count Orlok, a vampire, while Lily-Rose steps into the role of Ellen Hutter, the person who captivates him in a dark and ominous manner.
A 25-year-old actress, born to actor Johnny Depp and singer Vanessa Paradis with French-American roots, is earning critical acclaim for her performance in the chilling remake.
As a devoted admirer, I’m excited to share some behind-the-scenes tidbits about Robert Eggers’ gripping blockbuster, The Hollywood hit drenched in blood. Lily-Rose, our trusted guide, has disclosed some of the most challenging aspects she encountered during filming.
In one harrowing scene Lily-Rose is seen drenched in blood with it pouring out from her eyes, which she said was difficult to film.
She mentioned there was a sight that would make her cry if described again, given her eyes’ sensitivity.
In an interview conducted by actress Natalie Portman for Interview Magazine on Tuesday, Lily-Rose DeGlas announced details about their latest movie.
43-year-old actor Nat Wolff (known as The Black Swan star), recently inquired about the process behind creating the gory scenes to Lily-Rose, a friend Natalie has known since she was 16. Curious if directors were specific about how the blood would flow, given her previous acting background, Natalie asked this question.
Lily-Rose stated: “Indeed, they prefer it to drip in a specific manner, no doubt about that. And let me tell you, the amount of eye blood was quite excessive for my comfort.
Additionally, she shared that in the movie, there’s a scene where her naked form is covered extensively in blood – indicating she held that particular pose for an extended duration.
In the movie, Lily-Rose and her fellow actor, Emma Corrin from The Crown, undergo a possession experience, which brought about demanding physical requirements.
Lily-Rose confessed that she initially believed she and Emma would simply react spontaneously, improvising their movements during the intense, haunting scenes.
Upon reaching the set, however, she found that it was meticulously choreographed – a skill she honed under the tutelage of movement coordinator Marie-Gabrielle Rotie.
In addition, they practiced while wearing corsets, as Lily-Rose shared, which aided their character development since it offered a glimpse into the physique of women from the 1800s.
She mentioned that it was useful, as one might imagine, they were likely envisioning this is how ladies from that era would have dressed. However, they would probably have found such garments quite uncomfortable, perhaps even distressing due to the tightness of the corsets.
‘It’s a way of making physical all of the oppression against women at the time.’
Although people praised her performance as a ‘surprise’, Lily-Rose openly shared that there was one part of the role that caused her unease – mastering the accent.
In a candid admission, Lily-Rose shared that she hadn’t fully grasped the role’s English accent at the time of the audition, fearing it might lead to awkwardness or self-consciousness if she were to land the part.
However, she was resolved to secure the role, so she collaborated with dialect coach William Conacher to polish her skills swiftly, ensuring readiness for impressing filmmaker Robert Eggers.
Alongside Lily-Rose, Emma, and Bill, the movie Nosferatu boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Nicholas Hoult plays Thomas Hutter, Ellen’s husband, while Willem Dafoe takes on the role of Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz, a vampire hunter. Aaron Taylor-Johnson portrays Thomas’s friend Friedrich in the movie.
Completing our ensemble are Ralph Ineson portraying Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, Simon McBurney taking on the role of Herr Knock, and Paul Maynard and Stacy Thunes contributing in their respective supporting roles.
1882, Germany serves as the backdrop for the story of Nosferatu. The protagonists, Thomas Hutter and his spouse Ellen, embark on a journey that leads them to the ominous Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania, Romania. Therein, they cross paths with the enigmatic Count Orlok.
Here are three different adaptations of Nosferatu, including the initial one from 1922, a reimagining in 1979, and the most recent one directed by Robert Eggers.
It’s a chilling Gothic narrative that revolves around an enchanting young woman who is drawn into an unnerving obsession with a terrifying vampire. This dark romance triggers a chain of horrifying events.
