Bad Sisters season 2 episode 5 could have been more effective (Review)
As a fan who has been following this series from the start, I must say that Bad Sisters season 2 episode 5 was quite the rollercoaster ride! The title “Boom” certainly lived up to its name with the emotional highs and lows it delivered.
As a dedicated gamer diving into the thrilling world of Bad Sisters season 2, episode 5 ratchets up the tension for our beloved Garvey sisters in ways that left me on the edge of my seat. The fitting title “Boom” truly encapsulates the intensity of this episode in the Apple TV+ series. Here’s a rundown of my thoughts on the latest installment, so beware of potential spoilers ahead!
Eva is celebrating her 50th birthday, a moment that brings both joy for reaching such a milestone and a poignant sense of loss since Grace won’t be there to share it with them this year. It’s during special occasions like these, holidays and birthdays, that we often find our thoughts drifting towards the dearly departed individuals in our lives, and Grace’s passing is still fresh in everyone’s minds.
She was a great sister and thought ahead, purchasing a karaoke machine for Eva’s birthday which gets delivered. That scene with the four of them singing is a mix of funny, sad, and sweet. They’ve been through so much, but the loss of Grace is definitely the hardest.
Blánaid has been quite challenging towards Eva lately. It’s important to note that this young girl has gone through a lot. Tragically, she lost both her parents, and her last conversation with her mother ended in an argument. Despite her behavior, which can be painful for Eva, it seems like she’s dealing with her grief in her unique way. Nonetheless, Blánaid’s actions have caused concern for Eva.
Initially, it was Becka who shared information with the police regarding Blánaid’s mysterious disappearance after visiting Angelica without informing anyone about it or disclosing her plan to borrow money for shopping. Later, it was Eva’s turn to express concern by divulging details to the authorities. It seems she suspects that Angelica was extorting money from Grace through blackmail and that this could be the reason why Angelica withdrew a large sum of cash. This revelation came to light only after Angelica and her sisters had embarked on a boat trip to scatter Grace’s ashes.
In due course, Blánaid reappears and all seems well. Yet, the tension on the boat among the crew is palpable! Angelica, in an unfathomable way, defends JP for assaulting Eva, implying that there might be more to the story than what meets the eye. She even suggests that Eva could be distorting the truth. Frankly, her behavior is unacceptable. Unfortunately, she suffers the consequences when a loose part of the boat strikes her. I apologize for my lack of nautical terminology, but you can understand the essence of the situation.
It hits her right in the head and she falls overboard. Plus, we have to remember she still has the neck injury from when Becka and Bibi broke inter her house in last week’s episode. This woman keeps getting hurt. But that’s what you get for being unnecessarily involved, nosy, and judging without knowing all the details. I mean, is she dead? Whatever her fate is, as it’s said in Bibi’s words: f-k that wagon!
In summary, the fifth episode of season 2 in Bad Sisters was alright, but it didn’t stand out as my favorite. The tension and emotions felt by Eva due to Blánaid’s disappearance were palpable, yet I believe a more engaging approach could have been taken. Perhaps not revealing her visit to Angelica’s house would have heightened the suspense, making us viewers share in Eva’s worry, unsure of Blánaid’s whereabouts just as she was. Instead, we observed Eva’s distress while already aware that Blánaid is safe elsewhere.
The only really interesting part is the final moments when Angelica gets hurt and falls overboard. And I think the sisters continuing to grieve Grace were important scenes to have as well. I’m honestly just over Angelica, as well as the detectives. Sorry, but I do not care about your personal lives. And yes, Loftus stole Grace’s hidden money in the hopes of winning the custody battle to keep his daughter. But this was really bad for him to do. Episode grade level: C.
