Attack on Titan: The Last Attack’s New Box Office Outing, Explained

Crunchyroll is bringing Attack on Titan: The Last Attack back to theaters for a special anime event, and this time it’s in stunning 4K! The film kicks off the final arc, where Eren unleashes a devastating attack with an army of Colossal Titans, aiming to destroy the world. After learning the dark history of Paradis and the world’s animosity towards Eldians, he’s determined to wipe out all who oppose him. Now, old friends and foes must team up for a last-ditch effort to stop Eren before everything is lost.

Released in Japan in November 2024, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack is a condensed movie version of the fourth and final season of the series. The film also includes a new scene after the credits, based on the final chapter of Attack on School Castes – a funny, alternate-universe short manga by the creator of Attack on Titan, Hajime Isayama, which originally served as previews for the main manga.

I’ve been watching the reaction to The Last Attack, and it’s been incredible! Both critics and regular moviegoers seem to love it, with huge crowds showing up in theaters all over the world. As of today, Rotten Tomatoes gives it a nearly perfect 99% audience score – that’s based on over 500 reviews from people who’ve actually seen the film.

In 2025, Crunchyroll launched Anime Nights, a program designed to show popular anime films in theaters throughout North America. The first movies featured were Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved and a special 10th-anniversary screening of Overlord.

Crunchyroll has brought many popular anime series to movie theaters, including fantasy adventures like Re:Zero — Starting Life in Another World and Witch Hat Atelier, and even the unexpectedly popular Drops of God, which focuses on wine. Most recently, they showed That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond in April to promote the new movie, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea, which was released on May 1st.
