Helen Flanagan reveals her parents had to take her children from her during a psychosis episode after she suffered a bad reaction to her ADHD medication

As an ardent fan of Helen Flanagan, I find her courage and honesty truly commendable. Her journey through psychosis, a harrowing experience, is one that she bravely shares with us. The fact that she had to rely on her parents to take care of her children during her episode speaks volumes about the depths of her struggle.

Helen Flanagan shared that during a psychosis episode, it became necessary for her children’s nanny to contact her parents to immediately collect the kids due to her condition.

Last year, the TV personality experienced psychosis following an adverse response to her ADHD medication.

The popular television figure co-parents Matilda (age 9), Delilah (age 6), and Charlie (age 3) alongside ex-fiancé and former Bristol Rovers footballer Scott Sinclair.

On her initial conversation with The Life of Bryony podcast at The Mail, she shared: ‘My memory recalls an instance where my nanny needed to contact my parents as I believed there was a stranger outside our home.’

At the age of twenty-two, I experienced an extremely burglary at my home, with three intruders making their way inside.

When I was experiencing psychosis, I had the belief that someone was attempting to forcefully enter my home, where my children were present.

As I was heading home, I must admit, it was truly terrifying. I wasn’t exactly in control, given that medication was affecting me severely. I had this delusion that there was someone hiding in the trunk of my car, so I kept pulling over repeatedly, thinking I saw someone jumping in. It was a state of psychosis I found myself in.

It seemed like there was someone there, but then my nanny arrived, causing my mother to take the kids with her.

Helen mentioned she had been recognized at her childcare center, and the most challenging aspect for her was needing to clarify to the teacher that she could effectively care for her own children.

‘I think that was the hardest thing was to explain to the nursery teacher,’ she said.

‘I think she thought I was on drugs, that I was basically off my face on drugs.

‘And I had to explain to her that that I am a fit mum, I am a good mum.

‘I think that was just, I think that was just fucking s**t, to be honest.

For approximately a month, my children were cared for by both my parents, and afterward, they alternated between staying at my place and my parents’ house until I had fully recovered.

My affection for my kids can’t grow any stronger, but I recently took prescription medicine prescribed by a doctor expecting it to improve my condition, unfortunately, it had an adverse reaction instead.
