As a seasoned gamer with a heart for survival stories and a soft spot for strong female characters, let me express my admiration for Ruth in Snowpiercer. From her transformation from Wilfordite to the brave leader of New Eden, she’s proven herself time and again to be a beacon of hope amidst the frozen wasteland.
Initially, Ruth was among the disliked characters in Snowpiercer. However, she soon transformed into a favorite among viewers.
In the beginning of the series, she initially supported Wilford, a term used for his followers. Yet, unbeknownst to her at first, Wilford wasn’t actually on the train. As she delved deeper into learning about him, particularly when he eventually arrived on the train, she discovered that everything she believed about him was false.
Ruth’s unwavering devotion lies with the inhabitants of Snowpiercer, a cornerstone of her personality. This allegiance has persisted throughout time. She has spearheaded numerous uprisings, and it is she whom the people of New Eden have elected to guide them. She is determined not to disappoint them in this role.
Ruth was right to stop Layton in Snowpiercer Season 2, Episode 3
Right off the bat, Layton has exhibited a pattern of behaving aggressively to assert his control. As his influence expanded, this issue worsened, culminating in a disregard for the inhabitants of New Eden, treating them as insignificant, as depicted in the latest episode.
It makes sense that he longs for his daughter’s return, as any father would. However, the issue lies in his methods. Instead of seeking out Snowpiercer with Big Alice without verifying whether Liana might be present, a more thoughtful approach could be beneficial.
Ruth has a knack for maintaining an unbiased perspective, all while keeping the well-being of the over 400 residents of New Eden at heart. Her deepest desire is to ensure the longevity of this world. Unfortunately, that seems unlikely if Layton persists with his plans.
Ruth leaving with Layton was a smart move at the end of the Snowpiercer episode
Ultimately, Ruth agrees with Roche’s suggestion. She proposes a vote, giving Layton an opportunity to share his reasons. Moreover, she openly discloshes the facts, emphasizing that survival is possible for three weeks, but it won’t be easy. If Big Alice doesn’t come back, New Eden will collapse and everyone will get cold.
If the citizens choose Layton, she understands that her sole action is to depart herself. Given that everyone else is leaving, only she harbors New Eden’s people deeply within her heart. She will monitor their time away to ensure they return on schedule. After all, we are well aware that there’s always trouble brewing in this series – when isn’t there a problem in this saga?
Throughout her journey in Snowpiercer Season 4, Ruth has consistently made the correct decisions, earning her the title of the standout player so far. Overthrowing her seems like a daunting task indeed.
