Timothy Spall’s new period drama with “stand-out cast” confirms first UK screening

It was only a few weeks ago that we reported on the UK release date for new period drama

Originally, the film adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day was scheduled for a certain date, but it will now be released a little sooner.

The movie comes out in theaters on Friday, June 19th, but will first premiere at the London SXSW festival on Monday, June 1st, as part of the festival’s opening night for 2026.

The premiere will feature several of the film’s stars, including Haley Bennett, Jack Whitehall, Sally Phillips, and Misia Butler.

The film is adapted from Virginia Woolf’s 1919 novel of the same name and tells the story of Katharine Hilbery, a dedicated astronomer who actively tries to steer clear of romance and marriage.

What to Read Next

This work stood out because it explored the challenges faced by women of that time, questioning whether they could successfully combine romantic relationships, family life, and a career.

Above all else, though, the novel is a comedy, described as the author’s “funniest” material.

The movie is a fun, modern story set in 1910 London. It features a talented cast delivering funny performances, all set against a beautiful backdrop of a changing city – with new scientific discoveries and a shift away from traditional social structures.

Okay, so besides the people I already mentioned, the cast of …Night & Day is seriously stacked! They’ve got Jennifer Saunders, Lily Allen, Timothy Spall, Elyas M’Barek, and Alex Macqueen in it too. It’s a pretty awesome lineup, honestly.

Allen is currently touring with her popular album, West End Girl, and performing it from start to finish.

Spall has already finished filming the second season of his popular detective series, Death Valley, which was a success on the BBC last year. He’s also well-known for playing Peter Pettigrew, also known as Wormtail, in the Harry Potter films.

The film adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day will debut at the SXSW London festival on June 1st, followed by a release in UK cinemas on June 19th.

The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautiful 100-page, full-color tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
