Carrie Bickmore found herself both embarrassed and laughing on Monday’s episode of Mick Molloy’s new show, Glenn & Mick’s Celebrity Intervention.
Carrie Bickmore’s reality TV show, The Project, faced criticism from her celebrity friends, with Kate Langbroek specifically questioning the work of Carrie’s charity, Beanies 4 Brain Cancer.
After Carrie expressed disappointment about not receiving the Australian of the Year award, Langbroek playfully pointed out that at least she hadn’t battled brain cancer.
Molloy then joked that Carrie’s charity beanies are made in a sweatshop.
He pointed out that you’ve sold 700,000 beanies, and the people most grateful for your success are likely the children in Bangladesh who made them.
A fake photo of a sweatshop then flashed on the screen.
‘We were going to get them to send a message but they don’t get a lunch break,’ Molloy joked.
During the episode, Carrie had a difficult conversation with her 18-year-old son, Oliver Lange, about an embarrassing incident from his childhood – when she accidentally appeared nude in front of one of his friends when he was 11 years old.
I was nine months pregnant and ready to have my baby when I waved goodbye to my son as he left for school, as Lisa Bickmore recalled.
‘Then I got naked, because that’s what you do when you’re heavily pregnant and it’s summer.
I was about to take a shower when I noticed Ollie walking up the driveway. I quickly opened the front door – I hadn’t gotten dressed yet – and asked him, “What did you forget?”
‘But it wasn’t Ollie! It was his best friend.’
Carrie explained that he kept the news from his parents—who are also close friends of hers—for some time. Eventually, she had to be the one to tell them, and things have been awkward between them ever since, to the point where they avoid eye contact.
Comedian Molloy told news.com.au this week that Carrie received a lot of tough questioning during her appearance on the show.
In other parts of the film, Carrie’s mother shows photos of her childhood bedroom. According to Molloy, the mother describes it as being “a real pigsty.”
Carrie’s old colleague from Project, Peter Helliar, publicly asked for an explanation after finding her bra in his car.
During the episode, Carrie’s radio partner, Tommy Little, delivers some sharp and critical comments.
Tommy teased Carrie about her love of tanning, playfully calling her ‘the brown one from The Project’.
Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer has raised $27 million for brain cancer research since 2017.
