It’s time to say goodbye to the original Will Trent character for the very first time.
With the current TV season wrapping up, networks are delivering shocking twists. CBS’s NCIS unexpectedly killed off Director Leon Vance, marking the end of Rocky Carroll Jr.’s 18 years with the show. On High Potential, the season ended with a dangerous cliffhanger for Nick Wagner right as he and Morgan were beginning a relationship. And Will Trent joined the trend of surprising character deaths by tragically killing off Amanda Wagner.
In the fifteenth episode of Will Trent season four, titled “The Blank Expanse Of Nothing,” Wilbur continued investigating based on a lead Adelaide had followed up on the previous week. The GBI chief was also pursuing her own investigation, collaborating with the FBI to learn more about Adelaide and a mysterious leader connected to a cult worshipping James Ulster. Sadly, this investigation proved fatal for Adelaide, as Wilbur discovered she had been stabbed to death. The episode concluded with a cliffhanger, but it’s now confirmed that Amanda is dead.
Following the surprising plot twist, Sonja Sohn addressed her character’s fate on Will Trent through an Instagram post. She began by thanking fans for their support and condolences regarding Amanda’s death, expressing gratitude for their appreciation of her performance. She then explained that leaving the show is simply part of being an actor, and she plans to share more details about her experiences in her upcoming memoir. You can find her video message below.
It seems the decision to kill off Amanda came from the writers of the Will Trent show, not because actress Sohn intended to leave. Will Trent is a very popular show, and its audience has steadily increased over time. Amanda played a key role in its success, serving as a mentor to Will and acting as a mother figure to him. Her absence will be deeply felt on the show.
It’s strange that the show’s writers put Amanda in danger again so soon. In the last episode of season 3, she almost died, and viewers spent months wondering if she would be okay – she ultimately survived with no lasting harm. Now, less than a season later, she’s faced a similar life-or-death situation, but this time, she didn’t make it.
Amanda’s death will significantly impact Will Trent in season 5, serving as a major motivation for his actions. It’s crucial that the show explores the full weight of this loss; otherwise, her death would feel like a meaningless plot device.
