Will The Devil Wears Prada 3 happen? Here’s what the cast have to say

After a 20-year wait, the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada arrived in theaters on Friday, May 1st. The new film is already proving to be a hit with both critics and audiences, leading many to wonder if a third movie will be made – and if so, how long fans will have to wait this time.

During interviews for the new movie, both the actors and director David Frankel were asked about a possible third film. They all agreed that if they make another one, they’d like it to happen much sooner than 20 years from now.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Meryl Streep said: “I hope they don’t wait 20 years!”

Stanley Tucci jokingly said they wouldn’t be able to recreate the film in another twenty years, adding, “I need to do it before then – I might not be around!”

Emily Blunt, who is married to Stanley Tucci’s brother, has expressed interest in a third movie featuring more interactions between her character, Emily, and Tucci’s character, Nigel.

Blunt expressed enjoyment of her work, but wished she and Tucci had shared more scenes together. She explained they both felt there wasn’t enough opportunity for them to collaborate on screen.

Ahead of the sequel’s release, Anne Hathaway said she “hopes,” a third film materialises.

Hathaway mentioned she thinks there’s potential for more stories to be told, but they’ll likely have a clearer understanding of future possibilities after the movie is released.

Director Frankel acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry, saying, ‘Things can change quickly. It’s impossible to know what will happen next. We turned down this opportunity in the past, but now we’re revisiting it.’

I’m not ready to commit to a sequel just yet, but honestly, the characters are so well-developed and the actors are fantastic. The writing is top-notch too, so I can definitely see these characters having more stories to tell down the road.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 currently holds a 77% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Digital Spy praised the film as a rare sequel that lives up to expectations. They noted it successfully updates the story for a modern audience while still providing the familiar, enjoyable moments longtime fans want.
