Alan Ritchson’s Revenge Thriller Motor City Sets Release Date

Before the next season of Reacher arrives, Alan Ritchson will be starring in a new action movie. This independent thriller, focused on revenge, will be released in theaters this summer, and a short preview will be shown later this week.

IFC has set a release date for Motor City – it will hit theaters on July 24, 2026. Fans can get a first look with a teaser trailer arriving on May 6th. The film has been a passion project for many years, originally premiering at the Venice International Film Festival last August and having been written almost twenty years ago. It’s been a long journey, but Motor City is finally coming to the big screen.

Motor City Is Finally Out of Development Hell

Originally, Warner Bros. planned to make Motor City, with actors like Jake Gyllenhaal and Gerard Butler considered for the main role. However, that plan fell through. By 2023, the project was revived with Jack Ritchson as the star, and Potsy Ponciroli directing. Filming took place in 2024, and RLJE Films picked up the rights to distribute the movie in the U.S. last year.

This new movie, set in the 1970s, features Alan Ritchson as John Miller, a man caught in a dangerous love triangle with the girlfriend of a local gangster. After being falsely accused of a crime by the gangster, Miller sets out to get revenge. The film is almost entirely without dialogue and relies heavily on action, making it feel like a modern silent film. Ritchson’s fans can expect a lot of intense, visually-driven scenes.

Motor City Is a Silent, Violent Revenge Thriller

RLJE Films’ Mark Ward described the film Motor City as a powerful and stylish experience that’s hard to forget. He praised the cast and director Potsy Ponciroli, calling the movie an exciting cinematic ride best enjoyed in theaters.

Director Ponciroli explained that Motor City was created to be a fully engaging cinematic experience, with every visual and auditory detail intended for the big screen. He described it as a tribute to Detroit, 1970s films, and the powerful feeling you get from watching a movie in a theater – the kind of film that reminds you why cinemas are still important.

Alan Ritchson stars in Motor City alongside well-known actors such as Shailene Woodley (from The Secret Life of the American Teenager), Ben Foster (known for X-Men: The Last Stand), Pablo Schreiber (Halo), Ben McKenzie (Gotham), Lionel Boyce (Project Hail Mary), and Amar Chadha-Patel (The Decameron).

Motor City will be released in movie theaters on July 24, 2026.
