Oscar Isaac’s Conditions for Returning As Moon Knight in the MCU Revealed

Despite the uncertainty, there’s still a chance Oscar Isaac might return, according to a recent statement from the show’s lead writer, who explained the conditions for his comeback.

Jeremy Slater, the creator of Moon Knight, recently explained the delay in announcing more seasons to ComicBook.com. He said Oscar Isaac’s contract allows for future stories, but only if Isaac is personally enthusiastic about them. Essentially, Isaac has creative control and can return to the role whenever a story excites him.

Moon Knight Creator Reveals Oscar Isaac Is ‘Creatively Involved’ with Character

Isaac is likely happy with the future of his character, but fans might have to be patient. According to Slater, the key challenge – and the exciting part – is figuring out what kind of story would bring Isaac back to the role. They’re looking for something that would really motivate him to revisit the character and participate in the show again.

Moon Knight premiered as the sixth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022. The six-episode show was part of Phase Four and followed Marc Spector, a mercenary who struggles with dissociative identity disorder. The story explores a mystery involving Egyptian gods as Marc—and his different personalities, including Steven Grant (also known as Mr. Knight) and Jake Lockley—try to solve it.

Besides Oscar Isaac, the first season of Moon Knight featured May Calamawy as Layla El-Faouly, who is married to his character. Karim El Hakim played the role of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, and Ethan Hawke played the villain, Arthur Harrow.

Moon Knight’s MCU Future Remains Uncertain – For Now

The first season of Moon Knight received widespread praise for its acting and realistic depiction of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Though it still holds a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes years later, a second season featuring Oscar Isaac may not happen despite the show’s popularity.

Slater shared with ComicBook that he doesn’t expect to be involved creatively if Moon Knight gets a second season. He hasn’t spoken to Marvel in three years and has no idea what the future holds for his character. He admitted he’s just as curious as fans are about whether there will be a Moon Knight movie or another season of the show.

Despite everything, Slater still believes Isaac might come back. He said, “I think Isaac enjoyed the experience and was proud of the positive reaction from fans.” Slater added that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Isaac return, but admitted that’s just his opinion as a fan.

Moon Knight is now streaming on Disney+.
