Hugh Jackman’s The Sheep Detectives Earns Best RT Score in 7 Years

Hugh Jackman has a new movie coming out in May that critics are calling one of his best. It’s almost as well-received as a highly-rated crime film he made seven years ago, which has long been considered his best work.

Before it hits theaters on May 8th, the new film The Sheep Detectives is already getting great reviews! Currently, 94% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes have given it a positive rating. This ties it with the 2019 film Bad Education. The score is likely to change as more reviews come in, but if it goes up even one point, it will be the highest-rated film of Jackman’s career. Even a slight drop to 92% would still make it the third best-reviewed film, as another movie is close behind with a 93% rating.

The Sheep Detectives Earns Some High Praise

In a review, Fresh Fiction’s Courtney Howard praised the film for being charming, funny, and full of life, calling it a truly heartwarming and engaging experience for viewers.

According to Dexerto’s Chris Tilly, The Sheep Detectives is more than just a clever mystery. He notes the film explores serious themes like life, death, grief, and trauma, giving it unexpected emotional depth and likely to make viewers both laugh and cry.

IGN critic Jim Vejvoda called The Sheep Detectives “the cutest, sweetest movie ever made” for its surprisingly touching exploration of death, grief, and trauma.

The Sheep Detectives Boasts a Star-Studded Cast

Here’s the story behind The Sheep Detectives: George, a shepherd, loves reading detective novels to his sheep, thinking they don’t understand a word. But when something strange happens on the farm, the sheep surprisingly decide to become investigators themselves! They work together to solve the mystery, proving that even sheep can be clever detectives.

Directed by Kyle Balda, known for Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Sheep Detectives was co-written by Craig Mazin, one of the creators of The Last of Us.
