CD Projekt Red is releasing one final update for the game, and it has the potential to significantly improve the experience for players.
CD Projekt Red originally intended to add mod support to the console versions of The Witcher 3 last year, but the update was postponed. Now, it looks like that update is finally arriving, giving console players access to a lot of new content created by the modding community.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Mod Support Is Coming Soon
Even though The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt came out almost 11 years ago in 2015, it’s still receiving updates. A new patch will add mod support for those playing on consoles, letting players customize their experience with things like new quests, better graphics, and helpful improvements.
Since its launch, players have been creating mods for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, adding everything from different language options to completely new ways to get around the game world. Until now, these mods were only playable on computers, but an upcoming update will bring this extra content to console players as well.
Although players will appreciate this latest update, there’s talk of an even larger one coming to The Witcher 3 this year. Leaks indicate that CD Projekt Red is working on a new paid downloadable content pack for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, potentially releasing in May.
Fans loved the previous expansions for The Witcher 3, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, praising their memorable characters and beautiful new areas. Another expansion would be great for players, and could create a smoother transition between The Witcher 3 and the upcoming Witcher 4.
The Witcher 4 Release Date Is Still a Long Ways Off
The next Witcher game was revealed at the 2024 Game Awards and quickly became a major talking point. The first look showed Ciri, a popular character from the series, training and working as a Witcher on a perilous journey. Although a stunning tech demo built in Unreal Engine 5 was shown in 2025, it will likely be quite some time before the full game is released.
According to CD Projekt Red’s CFO, Piotr Nielubowicz, fans shouldn’t expect The Witcher 4 until 2027 or later, and there’s no indication that timeline will change. This new Witcher game is intended to launch a fresh trilogy, and will serve as the base for the stories told in the subsequent games.
The next Witcher game, The Witcher 4, is still a ways off, but fans won’t be left in the dark. New content and a possible expansion for The Witcher 3 are on the way to keep them engaged. The Witcher 3 is considered a classic, and developers hope The Witcher 4 will be just as successful.
