Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s emotional opening sequence has been revealed

The first look at the beginning of the new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, has been revealed with the release of the first three pages of its script. The film, a follow-up to 2021’s No Way Home, is expected in theaters this July.

Following the events of the previous film, where everyone forgot Peter Parker, the new script – shared with Entertainment Weekly by director Destin Daniel Cretton – reveals the story resumes nine months after those events.

The movie begins with a new Marvel logo sequence showing Peter’s lost memories of MJ and Ned. We see him reading the letter he wrote for MJ, and then, feeling completely alone as the creators noted, he’s back in his apartment testing a web-shooter he built himself.

Being alone is really getting to him, causing painful headaches. He’s been talking to an AI assistant named EV, who is currently the only companion he has.

Peter gets a reminder to visit May’s grave and bring flowers. While preparing, he finds the coffee cup MJ gave him and reads a letter. He quickly repairs his suit with a makeshift patch, then sees a video Ned posted online showing their first day at MIT – a video featuring both Ned and MJ.

Feeling forgotten, the scene shifts to Peter perched on a steel beam, watching a video of Ned. He reflects, saying, “Being Spider-Man means making tough choices, even when they hurt me personally.”

Thinking about keeping this a secret by himself, he tells MJ he loves her and hopes she still feels it too, deep down.

Peter puts on a new Spider-Man suit—designed with inspiration from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions—and rushes to help with a situation happening below.

Jon Favreau confirmed he won’t be reprising his role as Happy Hogan in the upcoming film Brand New Day. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Favreau explained that his character suffered memory loss and no longer remembers him, though a future encounter isn’t entirely out of the question.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to come out on July 31, 2026. You can currently purchase Spider-Man: No Way Home on platforms like Prime Video, iTunes, and other online stores.
