Simone Biles announced she’s taking a break from events after spending $23,000 on outfits for a recent red carpet appearance. She joked that she’ll be ‘staying home where it’s free’ from now on.
In a recent TikTok video, 29-year-old Olympic athlete questioned whether the high cost of getting hair and makeup done for an event was typical, expressing her surprise at the total expense.
Simone didn’t say which event she meant, but she recently wore a stunning $11,000 dress to the Laureus World Sports Awards.
She questioned the fee, wondering if it was typical. While understanding that outdoor activities are costly now, she was shocked by the amount and asked if such high prices were common.
I know prices have increased, but if this is the new standard, I’m out. I won’t be attending any more events. I’ll stay home where things are free. I’ve been really struggling with things ever since.
Simone responded to a fan who said she didn’t need a stylist, playfully saying she’d happily wear dresses from Oh Polly, House of CB, and Club L London anyway!
‘BUT the internet will disagree with you. They be on my a** tearing me apart. (sic)’
Okay, so Simone was in Spain for the awards, and honestly, it broke my heart to hear she was asking for privacy. She’d already hinted on social media that things were tough, and she just wanted everyone to give her some space. I totally get it, though – being constantly watched must be exhausting, and she deserves to just breathe without a million eyes on her. I just wish everyone would listen and respect what she needs!
The American athlete has become famous worldwide after winning seven gold medals at the Olympics.
Simone sometimes seemed overwhelmed by the attention, admitting that she occasionally feels anxious because of her fans.
The gymnast addressed privacy issues on Instagram, starting by saying she appreciates everyone’s enthusiasm, but she needs to be upfront about something.
She shared on Sunday that she gets really worried when someone waits outside the hotel all day. She politely requested they admire from a distance and respect her privacy.
Oh my gosh, she just posted the cutest picture of her cocktail, and she said she wishes she could take more pictures when she’s out! Like, yes, PLEASE take more pictures! I need to see everything she’s doing, everywhere she goes! It’s just… everything about her life is so aesthetic, and I’m living for it.
She first made a post on social media, then shared photos of her trip to Spain, showing everything from getting ready to behind-the-scenes moments of her life as a gymnastics icon.
On the night, she dazzled as she stepped onto the carpet at Cibeles Palace in the Spanish capital.
Simone wowed in an ethereal gown from Vietnamese designer, Cong Tri.
She wore a short, one-shoulder dress made of gold taffeta. It featured feathered fringe and a dramatic train.
The Laureus World Sports Awards is a yearly event recognizing the accomplishments of athletes and teams.
She has won the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award four times. She earned her latest award after her success at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
However, this year, Simone attended the event as an ambassador rather than a recipient.
She had the special job of presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Nadia Comaneci, the famous Romanian gymnast who became a star at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Comaneci is known for achieving the very first perfect 10 in Olympic gymnastics.
Simone’s ambassadorial role with Laureus was first announced back in February.
Becoming an ambassador is special to me because Laureus has been a part of my career for a long time. I’m so proud to have been named Laureus Sportswoman of the Year four times, and I especially remember last year’s awards ceremony in Madrid – it was an amazing night.
I’ve witnessed firsthand the positive impact of sports – how it can create opportunities, boost self-esteem, and make young people feel valued and encouraged. Visiting the girls in Milan reinforced how important this work is; their enthusiasm, resilience, and happiness were truly inspiring.
