Bobby Norris surprised viewers on ITV with his transformed appearance after having a facelift at 39. He explained the decision came after years of using facial fillers and experiencing online harassment.
The reality TV star, known from The Only Way Is Essex, appeared on This Morning on Wednesday to show off his new look after having cosmetic surgery in Turkey earlier this year.
Thirty-nine-year-old Bobby shared his story with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, explaining why he decided to have the surgery at such a young age.
I was really surprised to hear him talk about his surgeries, but honestly, I admire his openness. He admitted he’s still recovering – he’s still swollen, even after everything he went through in March with his neck, face, and lower eyelid procedures. He really stood up for his choice to have the work done, and I get why. It takes courage to be so honest about these things.
The surgeries reshaped his face, neck, and around his eyes by lifting and tightening muscles and skin, resulting in a more youthful look.
Bobby said he got surgery because years of using too many facial fillers had stretched his skin, leaving it looking thin and saggy, like a balloon losing air.
He admitted to Ben and Cat that he’d kept detailed records of everything, but also confessed to overusing facial fillers for about ten years. He was getting them every three months – more often than some people even visit the hair salon.
It was very obvious, and people need to understand that even though fillers aren’t permanent like surgery, there’s still a point where you can go too far.
Skin loses its firmness over time, and constantly stretching it – like inflating a balloon for years – eventually causes it to become loose and saggy.
I was bouncing around so much that by the time I finally stopped, it was too late to get what I needed, no matter how hard I tried.
Let me tell you, last year was a bit of a health scare for me! I was going through so many tests and appointments, I jokingly told my doctor there was probably more of my blood circulating in the labs around Essex than there was of the popular medication, Mounjaro. It was a stressful time, but a little humor definitely helped me cope!
The doctor gave me some shocking news: a specialist was on call, but warned I could be dead within twelve hours. But, strangely enough, my first thought was, ‘I can’t possibly die, I have plans to go to Sheesh tonight!’
Hearing that at my age was surprising. It made me realize we all have preconceived notions about what we can do at certain ages, and I wondered why I was putting off doing something I wanted until I reached my forties.
I’m looking forward to my forties, but you never know what tomorrow will bring, so I always try to do what feels right and be honest about it.
‘I know I would get torn a new one on social media being in my 30s.’
Explaining his choice to share his post-surgery recovery online, Bobby added that many people don’t talk openly about these kinds of experiences.
I refuse to mislead the people who have supported me for the past 15 years, especially when it comes to something that can’t be fixed with simple home remedies.
We’ve all encountered people who publicly share overly polished self-care routines – things like claiming they get a perfect eight hours of sleep, drink tons of water, and use elaborate skincare. It often feels disingenuous and unrealistic.
Honestly, it drives me crazy seeing some of these fitness influencers. They’ll film a few squats – seriously, three – at a place like David Lloyd (though there are plenty of other gyms, of course!), then disappear on some fancy five-day retreat and come back acting like they’ve completely transformed into someone else, trying to emulate the Kardashians. It’s just… a lot.
It’s tough on those who admire celebrities, especially considering how things were when I was young. We had magazines, and while that had its issues, I’m grateful we didn’t have social media. I think the most important thing is just being truthful.
Bobby openly shared that he experienced some discomfort for a while after his surgery, but found relief through pain medication.
You know, when Ben asked Bobby if he ever thought he might regret the surgery, Bobby was really direct. He explained he didn’t see it as a choice at all, because his skin had stretched so much that he felt he had no other option.
During the coronavirus lockdowns, ITV started showing a lot of old episodes of TOWIE. Watching it felt like looking through a photo album – it reminded me of ten years of my life, and it was strange seeing how much I’d changed, with a different nose and teeth.
It took a few weeks of seeing online criticism for me to realize something I’d been overlooking. When you’re actively trying to improve yourself, it’s hard to notice the small changes. It wasn’t until I had downtime during lockdown that I really started focusing on my fitness.
Honestly, I used to want to get rid of all my facial fillers, but I went too far with them. Now, I don’t regret getting the facelift at all. In a way, it’s fixing the damage I did to my face, and I see it as a correction of sorts.
I don’t follow trends with my appearance; I’m actually fixing past mistakes I made with fillers, and I think it’s important for people to understand that.
‘Do whatever makes you happy if it’s for you, but with fillers, you can cross a line.’
When asked if he thought he’d had enough surgeries, Bobby didn’t say no to the possibility of having more in the future.
He admitted he knew what he should say, but being honest, it was something he couldn’t bring himself to say, and he suspected he wouldn’t be able to resist doing so anyway.
I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I’m completely over it. I think I struggle with how I see my body, and it’s not something I’d ever decide to do quickly.
After Bobby debuted a new appearance, fans quickly took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their reactions, with many questioning what had changed.
People expressed sadness and concern, with one commenting that it was upsetting to see someone so young undergoing the procedure and questioning its necessity. Another person stated it wasn’t typical and felt the individual, being under 40, didn’t need the surgery.
One person wondered why he would do something to himself, and another expressed sympathy, saying he was a kind man who didn’t deserve this.
Oh my gosh, you guys, Bobby just posted new photos, and… well, his face is really swollen and bruised again! He had more surgery, and honestly, even though it’s a little scary to see, I’m just so fascinated by everything he does. I can’t look away, I just want him to be happy, and I’m always checking for updates. It’s just… a lot, but I’m here for him!
He shocked his followers earlier last month by revealing his painful face.
He posted a video on Instagram, sharing advice with fans and showing footage taken while he was recovering in the hospital after his surgery.
In the video, Bobby’s face was badly swollen, and his eyes were red and puffy, making it hard for him to see. He explained he hadn’t slept well, saying, ‘I had a really bad night’s sleep – I didn’t get much at all. My eyes are very sore and dry today.’
Bobby became a cast member on TOWIE in 2012 and quickly gained attention for his close bond with Gemma Collins and his relationships, including one with former co-star Harry Derbidge.
In 2024, he addressed rumors about gender reassignment surgery, which arose after he had several cosmetic procedures that significantly changed his look.
She publicly shared that she recently underwent several cosmetic procedures, including an upper eyelid lift, cheek fat removal, liposuction under the chin, and full-body liposuction.
He’s openly talked about getting carried away with cosmetic fillers after receiving free treatments while appearing on the show TOWIE.
Last year, Bobby shared that he felt he’d taken things too far, explaining that it’s easy to lose sight of how you appear until you see photos of yourself. He said he didn’t recognize himself anymore.
Dr. Mo Hamed, a cosmetic surgeon known for creating natural-looking results, previously explained to the Daily Mail that when Bobby first appeared on TOWIE, he had a very youthful appearance and hadn’t had any cosmetic procedures.
Bobby has had several cosmetic procedures over the years, like Botox and fillers in his jaw and cheeks. Now, he’s gone further with permanent surgical enhancements.
He recently discussed getting buccal fat removal surgery. This procedure involves removing fat from between the cheekbones and jawline, creating a more sculpted, defined look – often aiming for the high-cheekbone appearance seen on models and a sharper jawline.
Losing the fat pad under your eyes can significantly affect how you look as you age, potentially making you appear older. Additionally, Bobby has mentioned undergoing liposuction around the entire face.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
