Taylor Swift has given insight into how some of her most famous songs came to be.
The 36-year-old singer shared how her fiancé, Travis Kelce, helped with her song ‘Elizabeth Taylor,’ and also talked about what inspired her 2008 hit, ‘Love Story.’
As a longtime fan, I was fascinated to read in the New York Times Magazine this week that she feels there’s really no single way she approaches starting a song – it’s different every time, and she loves that freedom.
Taylor Swift revealed that the song ‘Elizabeth Taylor,’ from her 2025 album ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ began as an idea she had while driving with Travis Kelce. She shared this after having dinner with close friends on Monday night.
‘I’m riding in the car with Travis. I go on and on in explaining to Travis, like, why I love Elizabeth Taylor so much,’ Swift shared.
She tirelessly championed the rights of artists. Despite facing significant exploitation, she remained a compassionate and humorous person, holding onto her love for life. I could have talked about her forever.
I remember thinking her eyes were violet, though some people described them as blue. I was convinced they were violet. When we got home, I was completely lost in thought, stuck on a repeating tune in my head. I was frantically trying to open the voice recording app on my phone.
Swift also gave fans insight into her older smash hit Love Story.
The singer shared that she wrote the emotional song almost 20 years ago, when she was only 17.
I realized I didn’t care what others thought when I wrote ‘Love Story’ at 17 in my bedroom – I just loved the song that much.
The singer explained that she wrote the song, which includes allusions to Romeo and Juliet, after a disagreement with her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, about not being allowed to date someone older than her.
She playfully pointed out that this situation highlighted the importance of disciplining children, joking that it could lead to them writing hit songs.
Taylor Swift was recently recognized as one of America’s best songwriters and discussed how she creates her popular hits.
As someone who’s always been fascinated by creativity, I recently heard from a hugely popular musician – the artist behind ‘The Eras Tour’ – that she began writing songs at just 12 years old! And honestly, even after all this time, she still finds the songwriting process a bit magical and mysterious. It’s a beautiful reminder that even for the most talented people, inspiration can still feel wonderfully unpredictable.
Okay, so I’ve been writing songs forever, seriously. And honestly, the way they come to life is just… all over the place. Sometimes a song just flows out of me, finished in a flash. Other times, it’s a long process, a real journey with lots of twists and turns. Each song has its own story, its own way of getting finished, and it’s just… fascinating to me!
She confessed that people have taken inspiration from her life, stories, and various forms of media – like books and movies – and reimagined those influences in their own work. She finds it fascinating how they transform these inspirations, even though she doesn’t fully grasp the process.
The experienced music executive also mentioned she makes an effort to remember and connect with the strong feelings that come with being young.
She explained that young people experience emotions very deeply and with a lot of nuance.
As someone who’s observed a lot of relationships and personal growth, I’ve noticed something really specific about those early years, between 17 and 22. It’s a time when you’re intensely focused on connection – really wanting someone to notice you, to care for you, to be fully invested. But it’s also a period where that feels just out of reach, and you’re constantly striving for a level of attention and affection that doesn’t quite materialize. It’s a very detail-oriented, almost desperate, phase of longing.
‘You can’t understand why you spend all day thinking about it.’
I’ve always aimed to capture the full depth and nuance of a feeling when I describe it, while still remaining grounded and relatable.
Swift’s high-profile romances have infamously been documented throughout her discography.
Taylor Swift wrote the song ‘Dear John’ about her relationship with John Mayer, and her popular song ‘All Too Well’ details her brief romance with Jake Gyllenhaal.
Now the music sensation is set to tie the knot with Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce.
As a huge fan of Michael Rubin’s Fourth of July party, I was surprised to hear he’s changing the date this year! Page Six reported that he’s doing it to avoid clashing with another big event – an upcoming wedding. It’s a bit disappointing for those of us who look forward to the party every year, but it’s great to see him being considerate.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are rumored to be getting married in New York over the Fourth of July weekend, prompting Rubin to reschedule his own event to July 1st.
As previously reported by The US Sun, the couple, who started dating in 2023, are getting ready to embark on an unforgettable honeymoon trip.
The report states they’re planning a trip, starting with a flight to the Bahamas, followed by time on the Italian coast at Lake Como in Europe.
Next, they’ll spend a few days in Paris, followed by romantic trips to the French Riviera and Croatia.
