Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson’s “jaw-dropping” thriller gets intense first trailer

The first trailer is out for Verity, a new psychological thriller with Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. The film is expected to be released in October and could be a popular choice for moviegoers this fall.

I’m so excited about this new movie! It’s based on the Colleen Hoover book I loved, and it stars Johnson as a writer who’s really down on her luck. She gets offered a job by this author’s husband, but it quickly becomes clear that things aren’t what they seem and there’s some serious trouble brewing!

Michael Showalter, who previously directed Anne Hathaway in the 2024 film The Idea of You, helms Verity. The film is based on a novel by Colleen Hoover, adapted by Nick Antosca, and was praised by Elle as a “truly twisted and jaw-dropping” story.

The movie is a thrilling and suspenseful story about two writers. Lowen Ashleigh, a writer who’s fallen on hard times, takes a job at the secluded home of famous author Verity Crawford to finish Verity’s book (according to AboutAmazon).

When Lowen finds what seems to be Verity’s handwritten life story, she’s deeply disturbed by the shocking and unsettling things Verity reveals about her husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett).

What to Read Next

Lowen finds herself confused, unable to tell what’s real, who’s manipulating her, or if someone’s interest is genuine or obsessive. She needs to understand what’s happening fast, because the danger is growing.

The story opens with Lowen observing Verity while she’s asleep, then approaching Jeremy. She kisses him with feeling, but is shocked when Verity suddenly appears and takes his place. Lowen cries out after Verity bites her lip.

The trailer then quickly cuts between scenes of intimacy, violence, and mystery. Verity warns that their journey will lead only to darkness, offering no hope of a brighter future.

Anne Hathaway, John Benjamin Hickey, and Josh Hartnett are joined in the cast of the upcoming erotic thriller by Brady Wagner, Asel Swango, and Daniel Echevarria. Hathaway, Colleen Hoover, Nick Antosca, and Showalter are all producing the film as well.

Since Amazon MGM Studios is making the movie, it will probably be available to stream on Prime Video after it plays in theaters, but that hasn’t been officially announced.

Verity is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 2 October.
