Jason Statham & The Beekeeper Director David Ayer Reunite for New Action Movie John Doe

David Ayer and an unnamed collaborator are working together again. They previously teamed up on the successful films The Beekeeper (2024) and A Working Man (2025).

Before The Beekeeper 2 – which David Ayer isn’t directing – Jason Statham has teamed up with the Suicide Squad director for a new action thriller called John Doe. The film is expected to be similar in style to John Wick, and the screenplay is written by Zak Penn, known for blockbusters like Ready Player One and The Avengers.

What Is John Doe About?

Jason Statham will star as a mysterious man known only as ‘John Doe.’ The movie centers around a character who has lost his memory and identity, remembering only one face: a woman named Eliza.

As John recovers his memories, he realizes he was specifically trained for a dangerous mission that’s still underway, and now the people who trained him are trying to eliminate him. With his enemies closing in, he faces a difficult choice: complete the mission he began, or protect the person he’s come to love – the only thing that makes him feel like himself.

John Doe is joining the project from Miramax, the studio producing and funding the film. Jason Statham will produce through his company, Punch Palace Productions, with Paul Schiff and Zak Penn also serving as producers. Black Bear, a frequent partner of Statham’s, will be showcasing the film to international buyers at the Cannes Film Festival. Filming is scheduled to begin in September.

Black Bear’s film A Working Man, a successful collaboration with Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie, earned $98 million in 2025. The year before, Miramax released The Beekeeper, which brought in $152.4 million globally.

Jason Statham Has Multiple Projects Coming Up

Action star Jason Statham always makes time to work with directors he enjoys, and in 2026, he’ll be teaming up with Guy Ritchie again for a new movie called Viva La Madness. The film will also feature Ben Foster, Jason Isaacs, and Camila Mendes. Black Bear is the production company behind the project. This will be the sixth time Statham and Ritchie have collaborated, following their most recent film, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which came out in 2023.

Black Bear is currently making the meta-action-comedy directed by David Leitch. They’re also set to work with Miramax again in 2027 on The Beekeeper 2, a project Jeremy Irons and Pom Klementieff are also producing.

The follow-up to the 2024 action movie The Beekeeper will have a new director, Timo Tjahjanto, due to scheduling issues with the original director, David Ayer. Umair Aleem penned the script. Jason Statham will return, alongside Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jemma Redgrave, and Jeremy Irons. New cast members include Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff, and Adam Copeland. The Beekeeper 2 is scheduled for release in theaters on January 15, 2027.
