Sophie Habboo shared that she developed strong feelings for the doctor who helped deliver her and Jamie Laing’s baby, when she and Jamie recently returned to recording their podcast.
The popular couple, known from their hit podcast Nearlyweds and their time on Made In Chelsea, are back with a new show called Newly Parents.
Sophie and Jamie, who are 31 and 37 respectively, had a baby boy named Ziggy last December. They’ve been focusing on their new family and taking a break from their podcast.
The couple kicked off their new series on Monday by sharing personal stories about becoming parents and the arrival of their son.
While recovering in the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital, Sophie developed a liking for her doctor, Dr. Tariq, and even considered introducing him to her mother.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Jamie just spilled everything! Apparently, Sophie – his WIFE! – totally fell for Dr. Tariq, their doctor! Like, seriously fell. It got so bad, they actually had to go back and see him after appointments, just to… deal with it. I mean, can you even imagine?! It’s insane! I knew Dr. Tariq was special, but wow. Just… wow.
Sophie quickly interjected, worried that Tariq might see the conversation. She expressed concern about how he would react when they have another child, suggesting he might not allow her to work with the person they were discussing, deeming it inappropriate.
Jamie clarified: ‘Sophie you’re not actually in love with him…’
She agreed: ‘I’m not actually in love with him, I love him…’
Jamie remembered Sophie asking, with upset confusion, if she wouldn’t be able to see him again when they said goodbye.
She was really upset because the doctor seemed completely uncaring during their six-week check-up. He just dismissed them and wished them a good summer, without acknowledging their emotional connection or offering any support. She felt he didn’t care about their bond, and barely even looked at them.
Jamie shared that Dr. Tariq, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, had sent a video message for the podcast, which seemed to embarrass Sophie a little.
He greeted Sophie and Jamie, congratulating them and expressing his surprise that it had already been over four months since their baby, Ziggy, was born.
Things are pretty chaotic right now – it feels like trying to manage something completely out of control! Between the new baby and all the sleepless nights and diaper changes, you all were amazing. Sophie, you’ve naturally taken to motherhood – it seems so easy for you!
I know things are probably challenging right now, but I hope you’re still finding moments to enjoy this time. It goes by so quickly! Try not to wish these days away. In a way, this is the simpler stage – as kids get older, the challenges tend to grow too!
It’s truly an honor to be included, and it always is when someone is welcoming a new baby. I hope you’re all enjoying this special time, and take good care!
Sophie was clearly smitten with Tariq, exclaiming how cute and lovely he was. She repeatedly expressed her affection, also praising his beautiful voice.
Oh my gosh, you guys will NOT believe what Jamie just told me! He was going on and on about Tariq – seriously, a total dreamboat, apparently! – and then he casually dropped that they weren’t sure if Tariq was even available! Like, is he seeing someone?! But get this… at one point, Jamie and whoever else were SO smitten, they actually considered trying to set him up with my mum! Can you even imagine?! It’s just… everything about Tariq is perfect, obviously.
Sophie confessed she immediately thought of him as a potential stepfather, and she suspects he was shocked by the realization. She believes that’s why he avoided eye contact when saying goodbye – he just wanted her to go.
Sophie and Jamie hilariously disguised themselves as older versions of themselves over the weekend to share the exciting news that their podcast is coming back.
The couple started a podcast called NearlyWeds when they got engaged, and later changed the name to NewlyWeds after they got married in 2023.
Last year, the couple announced they were expecting a baby and renamed their podcast ‘NearlyParents’. They paused the podcast in December when their son, Ziggy, was born.
However, the couple have now brought the podcast back, titled NewlyParents.
To mark their comeback, the duo transformed into older versions of themselves for a funny and energetic commercial. They used grey wigs, realistic wrinkles, and special makeup to convincingly portray their elderly selves.
Oh my gosh, it just broke my heart! Seeing Jamie, all grown up, holding Sophie’s hand in the hospital… she looked so frail, but he was right there with her. The room was covered in pictures of their life together, you could just feel all the years of love and happiness they shared. It was honestly the most beautiful and devastating thing I’ve ever seen.
The photos include genuine moments from their wedding and the birth of their son, Ziggy. But they also feature digitally enhanced images, like what the couple might look like when they’re older, scenes of them on the moon, and even a fake newspaper headline announcing Jamie as Prime Minister.
Old Jamie turned to his wife and said he still couldn’t believe what they’d gone through together – what an adventure it had been! He admitted he’d been reflecting on things, and his biggest regret was not bringing their podcast back for just one more episode.
Suddenly, Sophie’s vital signs flatlined, causing Jamie to panic. He desperately called for help and pleaded with her, saying, “No, Sophie, wake up! Let’s forget about the podcast – I didn’t mean to bring it up. Please wake up!”
She woke up with a gasp, realizing she was back in her bed as her normal 31-year-old self. “Oh my god, that was a terrible nightmare,” she breathed, relieved it hadn’t been real.
I swear, I nearly lost it! I mean, I was checking under her bed – don’t judge, I’m a dedicated fan – and there he was! Jamie, holding Ziggy, and it wasn’t just him. There was a whole team! Cameras, lights, sound equipment… the works! He just looked up and shouted, ‘We’re back, baby!’ I almost fainted, it was the best moment of my life!
The video was a hit with fans, even celebrities! Dani Dyer and Tasha Ghouri responded with laughing emojis, and Sophie’s close friend, Melissa Tattam, commented that it was both hilarious and touching, making her laugh and cry.
People jokingly compared Jamie’s makeup to several figures, including the Dr. Seuss character The Lorax, Ellen DeGeneres, and the late Bruce Forsyth.
Watching this makes me wish you were all here to laugh with me – we would have had so much fun doing this makeup and acting like seniors! So glad to be back ❤️
Wow, this is the greatest ad I’ve ever seen! Could you please create the John Lewis Christmas ad this year? Seriously, that was surprisingly touching.
I initially thought this was a trailer for ‘NearlyDead’. I’m so happy you’re back – this podcast is a real comfort to me, and I’ve missed it every week!
Jamie is delusional about how much hair he’ll have when he’s old, and he resembles the Lorax.
They remind me of a young Bruce Forsyth! Jamey, you look just like the actor Leslie Phillips – wonderful! They’re the cutest couple on social media, we absolutely adore them both!
Someone commented, ‘This isn’t Ellen,’ and added, ‘I’m really looking forward to hearing from you all again! Your ad was hilarious!’
This follows Jamie’s announcement that he’d like to have three more children, and his criticism of modern parents for being overly protective of their kids.
He recently told The Times that becoming a parent in December has been all-consuming. He’s enjoying the experience, but it’s been a bit chaotic! When asked about having more children, he said he’d like to have four in total, though that’s not a firm plan right now.
People say the biggest change comes when you go from having one child to two. After that, adding a third doesn’t seem so difficult – once you’re already managing three, you might as well have a larger family!
Jamie emphasized that children need to develop their own resilience, which means finding a healthy balance between protecting them and letting them learn from their experiences.
The TV personality explained that growing up, they were always taught to get back up and keep going after falling off their bike. They believe this is a valuable lesson for children, and feel that some modern parenting styles are overly protective.
My mum definitely believed in letting me figure things out on my own – maybe a little too much! She wouldn’t have worried about me getting a bit scraped or bruised. She thought it was okay for kids to experience minor discomfort, like getting stung by a nettle, because it wouldn’t seriously hurt them. It’s all about finding a balance between protecting them and letting them learn for themselves.
Jamie and Sophie shared their journey through pregnancy and the arrival of their son, Ziggy, in their Disney+ show, Raising Chelsea, which premiered last month.
