The Denza Z Convertible represents a bold new direction for BYD’s luxury brand, with plans for a quick expansion into international markets before launching in China. First shown at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, this open-top version of the original Denza Z concept is designed to make a strong impression in the luxury car market. Led by design chief Wolfgang Egger (formerly of Audi), the car features a comfortable 2+2 seating arrangement and an elegant fabric roof that folds neatly into the trunk. Instead of relying on flashy spoilers, the production model shown in Beijing uses a subtle, built-in rear spoiler for a more refined look. It stands out with a unique green exterior paint and a striking interior combining green, white, and yellow. BYD plans a full lineup – including hardtop, convertible, and high-performance versions – to directly compete with established European sports cars like the Porsche 911 Cabriolet and Maserati GranCabrio Folgore.

The Denza Z Convertible isn’t just stylish – it’s incredibly powerful, designed for both everyday driving and thrilling performance. It features a cutting-edge all-wheel-drive system delivering over 1,000 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than two seconds. This car also introduces a new, incredibly fast charging system thanks to BYD’s Blade 2 battery technology. It can theoretically reach peak charging speeds of up to 1,500kW, meaning it can reach 80% charge in just nine minutes. This dramatically reduces the usual charging limitations of high-performance electric cars, making it much more practical for daily use.

Handling and driving performance are just as important as other features in the development of the Denza Z Convertible. It features a modern steering system and an advanced suspension that uses cameras to read the road and adjust instantly, keeping the car stable even during fast, sharp turns. After being shown publicly in China, the car will be demonstrated in action at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK this July. The Denza Z Convertible represents a significant change, as a Chinese automaker successfully brings a high-performance, luxury vehicle directly to buyers in Western markets.
