First look at Aubrey Plaza’s “amazing” drama as it gets an exciting update

New details and first images have been released for the upcoming drama, The Accompanist, which marks the directorial debut of Zach Woods, known for his roles in The Office US, Silicon Valley, and Veep. Aubrey Plaza stars in the film.

Plaza isn’t the only well-known name in the cast. Susan Sarandon, famous for roles in films like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Witches of Eastwick, and TV shows like Friends and Malcolm in the Middle, also stars.

The movie will debut globally at the Tribeca Film Festival with showings on June 4th, 5th, and 7th.

Okay, so the story centers around this little girl, Emily – she’s nine, played by Everly Carganilla – and things get crazy when child protective services shows up at her door. Basically, she accidentally lets slip that her grandpa, who has dementia, almost put her in a really dangerous situation, and that’s what triggers the visit. It’s a pretty intense setup!

Social worker Sarah (Plaza) splits up the pair, placing Emily with her new foster mother, Sylvia (Sarandon).

Sylvia is a complex character – she’s often seen as mysterious and a bit quirky, with a playful sense of humor and an unpredictable nature. Though warm and inviting, she’s also clearly affected by difficult experiences from her past.

They start to develop a close connection, but they need to figure out how much they’re willing to sacrifice to continue their relationship (according to Deadline).

Woods explained that his film explores the feeling of loneliness we all experience sometimes. He believes it’s important to share stories about the challenges and joys of connecting with others, even when it feels difficult and uncertain.

I’ve worked with Zach, and honestly, the guy is just endlessly creative and hilarious. He always brings a ton of fresh ideas and keeps everyone laughing on set.

I was absolutely blown away after watching two of Zach’s short films – seriously, the stories were so well made and really touched me. I immediately had to ask him what he was working on next, and he told me about this incredible personal script called The Accompanist. We’re all super excited to be helping him bring his first feature film to life!

David Garrett of Mister Smith Entertainment also highlighted the script’s distinctive and original style.

The Accompanist will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.
