Channel Seven Star’s Horrific Bike Crash: ‘I’ve Taken a Bit of Bark Off My Face’

A Channel Seven host shared details about the complete scope of his injuries following a severe accident that happened on Wednesday.

54-year-old media personality Mark Soderstrom, known as ‘Soda’ from 7News Adelaide, was taking part in the Santos Tour Down Under in South Australia when he had a fall from his bike, resulting in an injury.

In a fall, the sports commentator injured his hand and scraped his face, subsequently showing images of his visibly sore wounds to the audience.

A picture displayed him sporting large discolorations on his face, while another image unveiled his arm enclosed in a cast, signifying it was fractured.

One photograph depicted him bearing massive bruises across his facial features, whereas another image exposed his arm being encased in a cast, suggesting it had been broken.

Thankfully, I was able to deliver the evening news at 6 pm, and I wanted to assure our audience that I’m recovering well.

He later revealed the set of events leading to the incident to The Advertiser.

He mentioned an minor mishap involving a traffic median as he was driving slowly. It was a tiny island situated within the city, and he unintentionally went airborne, landing on his handlebars.

> After an unfortunate incident, I ended up fracturing my hand and sustaining a minor scratch on my face from the bark. Fortunately, my teeth remained unharmed during this mishap.

Miraculously, Soderstrom managed to successfully complete the bike race in spite of his injuries.

Instead of immediately leaping back onto my bicycle to complete the journey, I chose to do so afterward. Unfortunately, upon examination, it turned out that I had fractured my hand.

Soda has had a long media career in Adelaide in both TV and radio.

It came to light in October that the popular duo, Soda and Rebecca Morse, had decided to conclude their long-standing SAFM Breakfast show, known as Bec & Soda.

Soda’s announced he was leaving the show to deal with some ‘difficult personal circumstances’.

Later on, Rebecca shared that her agreement with SAFM wouldn’t be extended, which means she too will be resigning.

Rebecca shared on social media that she had been informed her contract wouldn’t be extended, but was given the option to work through the remaining week instead.

Soda is a former athlete and played in over 100 local footy matches in the SANFL from 1992 – 2000.

He has three children with his wife Kate.

Previously held by other personalities, the time slot is now occupied by Bernie Vince and Emma Georgiadis, hosting their program titled Bernie & Emma.
