Charlie Brooks reveals the real reason she signed up for Dancing On Ice and admits she would be ‘angry and jealous’ if her skating partner Eric Radford performed with anyone else
Charlie Brooks has shared the actual motivation behind her participation in ITV’s Dancing on Ice, prior to this weekend’s premiere episode.
For the past three months, the actress from EastEnders, aged 43, who plays the character Janine Butcher on the popular BBC series, has been practicing skating routines with her professional partner, Eric Radford.
Apart from revealing the timing, Charlie also confessed that her agreement to be on the show was motivated by the desire to achieve a notably firm behind.
In an exclusive chat with TopMob, Charlie shared that the timing worked out perfectly for him, and his chosen word for the year was “adventurous.
‘It also meant I could really get in touch with my body and get a really solid bum!’
She stated: ‘My instinct urged me to act, but my rational mind advised against it. There was a small internal struggle, and then when I became very still, I thought, this is the correct choice, yes, yes. And I am overjoyed that I went ahead with that decision, yes.’
To put it candidly, I’d find myself seething with envy and indignation if my skating partner, Eric Radford, were to dance with someone other than me. The bond we share on the ice is unique and profound; I can hardly imagine him gliding with another.
During the conversation, Charlie expressed to Eric, “To be honest, the thought of you dancing with someone else actually irritates me quite a bit. It stirs up feelings of anger and jealousy within me.
Eric replied: ‘I take it as a compliment!
From the very beginning, it felt as if there was something unique between us, making our interactions effortless and joyful. We’ve shared plenty of laughter along the way. To put it simply, I find myself lifting her frequently.
I find him incredibly robust, and I have complete faith in his abilities. However, it’s uncertain if he feels the same confidence regarding me and my weapons.
On Sunday, the popular ice-skating show from ITV will be back on British television, with Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern as hosts.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that in the year 2025, I’ll be back, alongside my esteemed colleagues, on the judging panel for Dancing on Ice. Oti Mabuse, Ashley Banjo, Jayne Torvill, and Christopher Dean will once again grace their seats, ready to evaluate the dazzling performances that lie ahead.
After the actress publicly announced that she’s found love again, she posted some affectionate photos on Instagram on Tuesday – a move that brings joy to her fans six years following her emotionally distressing breakup.
Charlie openly displayed her new relationship when she strolled hand-in-hand with producer James Fuller through the streets of London.
With an uncontainable joy, she embraced her partner James, during their cheerful excursion under the sun, as they captured a memorable moment in a photograph together.
The couple wrapped up in large padded jackets and both coordinated wearing sunglasses.
Advertising producer James, known for his work on numerous prominent commercials, is believed to have encountered Charlie around the beginning of this year.
Charlie is embarking on her initial public relationship since parting ways with Ben Hollington, her partner for six years, back in 2018.
Charlie co-parents their twenty-year-old daughter Kiki with her former Ibiza club owner friend Tony Truman, whom she parted ways with back in 2007, but remains on good terms.
Following the unveiling of the complete Dancing On Ice cast in October, Charlie posted a picture on Instagram showing herself donning her skates, accompanied by the caption: “Gearing up for skating. Definitely looking forward to it!
Last year, during an appearance on Loose Women, Charlie mentioned that he had known about it for several weeks. With everything being extremely chaotic over the past few months, it’s only recently started to feel more real.
‘Everyone’s like how are you feeling, I suffer with nerves so I don’t know how that is going to go.
As a child, I used to skate, and during Christmases, I’d even try it with mulled wine. Before stepping onto the ice, I never know how I’ll fare, as I’m not particularly strong in that area.
‘I’m not competitive but it might come out in me and I want to have fun and not get injured.’
She went on to say, “I pondered about it extensively, but then I asked myself what my 10-year-old self would say, and I imagined her response being a resounding ‘yes!’
‘I had two words at the beginning of the year which were intentional and adventurous.’
In her concerns about the upcoming competition, Charlie expressed: ‘I wonder if my body might fail me since I don’t think I’m particularly robust at present. And when I watch them do that low squat on the ice, it leaves me utterly amazed.’
The show returns Sunday January 12 at 6.30pm, live on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
