Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson’s “gripping” thriller is the Netflix movie to watch this weekend

With Tom Holland’s latest Spider-Man movie arriving next week and new trailers released for Robert Pattinson’s Dune: Part Three and the Batman spin-off Clayface, it feels like the perfect moment to revisit a film featuring both actors.

Fortunately, there’s a great movie available on Netflix right now called The Devil All the Time. Despite the name, it’s not a horror film.

The film, released in 2020 and adapted from Donald Ray Pollock’s 2011 novel, follows the connected lives of several characters across two American towns. Its story spans decades, from World War II through the 1960s.

Who’s in The Devil All the Time?

  • Tom Holland as Arvin Russell
  • Bill Skarsgård as Willard Russell
  • Riley Keough as Sandy Henderson
  • Jason Clarke as Carl Henderson
  • Sebastian Stan as Deputy Lee Bodecker
  • Haley Bennett as Charlotte Russell
  • Mia Wasikowska as Helen Hatton
  • Robert Pattinson as Reverend Preston Teagardin
  • Harry Melling as Roy Laferty
  • Donald Ray Pollock as the narrator

What did the critics say about The Devil All the Time?

The film has a decent critic score of 65% positive on Rotten Tomatoes, from 219 collected reviews.

Okay, so I just read a review in The Telegraph and they absolutely loved the movie! They said it was super gripping, and honestly, Pattinson was the star for me according to the review. Apparently, he can switch from being charming to scary to just plain funny in a heartbeat, which is perfect because he plays off Holland’s character, who they described as kind of dark and quiet, really well. It sounds like a great dynamic!

I saw this really funny headline from The Irish Times – they weren’t saying people should focus on the academic side of sociology. Instead, they were teasing that it’s a place where you can spot some famous actors letting loose and having fun on their days off! It’s a surprisingly fun draw, honestly.

What to Read Next

According to The Mirror, this story is a truly captivating and beautifully performed gothic thriller that’s often disturbing, with plenty of unexpected plot developments.
