Influencer Gracie Piscopo breaks her silence with cryptic post about ‘tough times’ as her baby daddy Andre Rebelo is found guilty of murdering his mother
As a seasoned observer of human nature and a student of the complexities of life, I find myself deeply saddened by the tragic story of Andre Rebelo, the young man who has been found guilty of murdering his mother for financial gain. Having spent years studying and reporting on such cases, it is clear to me that money can drive people to commit unspeakable acts, even against their own kin.
Following the conviction of Andre Zachary Rebelo for killing his mother, Gracie Piscopo has finally spoken up about the tragic event.
28-year-old Rebelo was recently convicted for taking the life of his mother, Colleen Rebelo (age 58), in order to receive approximately half a million dollars from a life insurance policy, as determined by the Western Australia Supreme Court this past month.
On Wednesday, influencer Gracie from Perth posted a mysterious message on Instagram, presumably in response to recent news.
Despite not directly mentioning Rebelo, it seemed like Gracie was alluding to a challenging period in her life when she spoke about enduring a “difficult time” in her heartfelt post.
She posted a collection of charming photos showing her hugging her son Romeo beside their Christmas tree, expressing that she was making ‘special moments’ or ‘memories’ for him instead.
She penned alongside the images: ‘Making magic for my baby, finding moments of joy where we can.
Difficult moments shape resilient individuals, and I’ll consistently emit kindness while keeping hopeful about what lies ahead, trusting that there’s always a beacon of light hidden within adversity.
Additionally, Gracie posted a quote on her Instagram Stories that said: “I assure you, everything will turn out alright,” suggesting she was addressing a challenging period in her life.
Her supporters swiftly expressed their backing in the comment area, pondering if she might have been alluding to the court ruling concerning Rebelo.
As a devoted follower, I seldom delve into Rebelo’s legal matter, but when the initial accusations surfaced, Gracie found herself in a profoundly shocked and unbelieving state.
After his arrest, Rebelo became less active on Instagram, and Gracie was often missing from several of his court hearings, until it was necessary for her to testify.
In December last year, Gracie made their relationship public on Instagram by sharing a photo of themselves enjoying Christmas together with Daniel Classen.
In the photo, Gracie embraced her boyfriend tightly, pulling him near for a loving kiss.
‘Guess this makes it official,’ she captioned the post.
Four weeks back, the couple were found to be inseparable, as evidenced by photos posted by Gracie that showed them indulging in a charming New Zealand vacation filled with romance.
Gracie undoubtedly faced a challenging few weeks following the court’s verdict that confirmed Rebelo, her former partner, murdered his mother to collect half a million dollars in insurance money.
On the 5th of December, a 12-member jury made their decision public following a prolonged discussion period of two days, which came after an extensive murder trial in Western Australia’s Supreme Court.
In the bustling courtroom, Rebelo only showed a faint smile and slightly arched eyebrows as the judge announced the guilty verdict, with his father, Antonio, present among the spectators.
On May 25, 2020, Colleen Rebelo was tragically discovered deceased in the shower of her residence in Perth’s southwestern district of Bicton by her youngest son.
The prosecution maintained that Ms. Rebelo, being a healthy and content individual, was unlikely to have passed away due to natural reasons or suicide.
Despite the coroner being unable to officially determine the cause of death, they proposed that it’s possible Ms. Rebelo might have suffered from asphyxia.
During the unfortunate incident, Rebelo and his girlfriend Gracie, boasting over a million Instagram followers, seemed to be enjoying a life filled with opulence and freedom.
Social media updates revealed they were spending extravagant vacations, cruising luxurious vehicles, and indulging in a life of high-end luxury.
In essence, since it was all paid for with credit, Rebelo tried to liquidate a $500,000 life insurance policy he had recently established in his mother’s name following her demise.
It was found that Ms. Rebelo had insurance coverage worth $1.5 million distributed among three different policies, with herself as the recipient of benefits in two of them.
As a devoted sibling, I can verify that neither my twin nor our two brothers possessed any knowledge about the insurance policies covering our mom prior to her passing.
During the eight-week trial, Gracie testified and stated that Rebelo informed her he was at his mother’s residence on the day she passed away.
Yet, clandestinely recorded discussions between them revealed a different story months later, indicating that he had been untruthful about his whereabouts and kept it hidden from her.
As the time approached for his mother’s passing, Rebelo found himself carrying a significant financial burden with over $40,000 due on a personal loan and credit cards.
Apart from Gracie, there were two other significant financial obligations on her name: a debt of $70,000 on her car, and a debt of $40,000 to the Australian Taxation Office. However, she was not conscious of these liabilities since Rebelo handled their finances.
There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing on the part of Gracie.
In the south-west part of Perth, they were finding it difficult to keep up with the mortgage payments for their townhouse in Beaconsfield, a predicament that led Rebelo to conceive a rather unpleasant solution proposed by prosecutors.
On May 1, 2020, he established an email account using his mother’s name, followed by taking out a life insurance policy also under her name on May 18.
On May 19, he created another policy followed by a third on May 20 without telling anyone else.
Rebelo visited his mother around 10.30am on the morning of May 25 and stayed for an hour.
After a span of two hours, his mother was discovered slouched over in her private bathroom shower, adorned with her gold jewelry and mascara intact.
It was Fabian, the youngest sibling of Rebelo, who unexpectedly made the discovery, as he thought their caring mother would collect him from work instead.
In three days’ time, Rebelo attempted to assert ownership over the most substantial insurance policy, valued at $500,000, which he had registered under his mother’s name, through RAC.
He took his mother’s driver’s licence without his brother’s knowledge and created a fake version of her will, naming himself the sole beneficiary.
Additionally, he fabricated false medical documents attributed to Dr. Rebelo’s psychologist, as well as a peculiar AI-generated voice message, and also falsified a coroner’s report, complete with a forged signature, claiming that the cause of death was due to a berry aneurysm.
However, insurance staff became suspicious and alerted police.
During the interrogation of Rebelo and Gracie, it was found that a week prior to his mother’s demise, he had informed her that approximately half a million dollars would soon be deposited into their account as a result of his cryptocurrency trading activities.
Rebelo maintained his innocence throughout the trial.
Police pinpointed Rebelo’s location from his phone at his mother’s place the morning of her death.
Instead, he stated that he was present to deliver clothing for his sibling and ended up staying for a cup of coffee and a casual conversation.
He informed the court that he chose to make a life insurance claim to support the entire family, however, he feared he might be deceiving the insurance companies due to his belief that his mother had taken her own life, which led him to falsify evidence.
Outside the courthouse, Rebelo’s father, Antonio, shared with reporters that he continued to maintain his son’s innocence.
‘It’s sad, disappointing for everyone. Very sad for everyone,’ he said.
Rebelo will be sentenced in April next year. He remains behind bars.
