Jane Seymour says she is ‘shaken’ after getting out of her Malibu home ‘just in time’ as firefighters battle California wildfires
As an obsessed fan who has followed Jane Seymour’s illustrious career since her days as a Bond girl, I find myself deeply moved by her latest ordeal with the California wildfires. Having witnessed firsthand the destructive power of nature in my lifetime, I can only imagine the terror that must have gripped her when she had to evacuate her Malibu home with just minutes to spare.
Jane Seymour stated that she managed to leave her Malibu residence at the right moment, carrying nothing but the clothes on her person, since the California wildfire was rapidly approaching and even reached close to her house.
73-year-old actor Daniel Craig, known for his role as James Bond, commended the firefighters for their exceptional work in safeguarding his house from the Franklin Fire, a blaze that started on Monday night, which was later referred to as such.
On her return on Thursday, Jane mentioned that her entire house had a strong smell of smoke, as she had to quickly leave the premises late on Monday night.
Jane described her attire as simply denim pants and a pullover, stating she had worn them continuously for four nights while staying at various friends’ places, during the BABC’s annual Christmas gathering on the red carpet.
On Monday evening at 10:50 PM, we received a call from Johnny, the son of our partner, John Zambetti, who was located at Serra Retreat.
He spotted a faint light hidden by the drapes, then threw open the windows, only to reveal towering flames that reached about ten feet high. Immediately, he phoned us in a panic and urged, “Quickly, evacuate! Evacuate!
‘We all got out just in time because of that.
I can’t express enough gratitude for the incredible work of the fire department. The flames nearly reached our property by a mere inch, but they managed to save countless lives. I escaped the house in nothing but the clothes on my back, shaken to the core.
At present, Jane is in a relationship with the musician John Zambetti, who is 75 years old, and she takes great pride in being the parent of six grown-up children: Jenni (44), Katherine (42), Sean (39), Kalen (56), and twins John and Kristopher (29).
According to the most recent report from the City of Malibu, a wind-fueled wildfire has scorched over 4,000 acres, leaving 14 structures completely destroyed and another 13 sustaining damage.
On Friday, renowned actor Dick Van Dyke (aged 99) and iconic singer Cher were among those celebrities who had to evacuate their residences.
As the recipient of the LA icon honor at the BABC event in Los Angeles, I found myself deeply touched. With the recent fires approaching my home, a week ago, it felt impossible to imagine dressing up, let alone engaging in conversations with others.
At the red carpet event, Jane explained that the fire ‘never targeted our home’, as ‘firefighters arrived promptly, and we were swiftly rescued instead’.
‘The whole house smells of smoke, but we’re just so grateful,’ she said.
The work performed by the fire department was nothing short of astonishing. In my neighborhood, if you were to gaze up the hill, you’d see that each home came perilously close to being consumed by the flames – only an inch or so separating the fire’s edge from the dwellings.
‘It is absolutely incomprehensible to me that so few structures were burned.’
In her address, Jane expressed gratitude for being able to continue working at the age of 73, stating that she feels deeply fortunate.
Reflecting on my extraordinary journey, I can’t help but marvel at the serendipity that led me to turn forty and find myself embracing the enchanting world of Dr Quinn. Many women may believe that reaching this milestone means a slow descent into obscurity, but for me, it was a magical awakening. The arrival of Dr Quinn in my life has been nothing short of miraculous; I’ve felt incredibly fortunate to have experienced such an uplifting transformation.
In 1973, Jane acted alongside the late Sir Roger Moore, playing the role of James Bond (for the first time as the MI6 agent) in Live and Let Die.
The two-time Golden Globe winner said being a Bond Girl is a ‘moniker that will never leave me’, describing it as ‘probably the most important British export you can be a part of’.
In 1996, Jane bagged the Best Actress award at the Golden Globes for her portrayal of Michaela Quinn in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, marking an interval of 14 years since she had previously won for East of Eden.
Following the intense Malibu wildfire evacuation, Dick Van Dyke had to crawl to his car due to exhaustion from attempting to battle the blaze.
This week, the renowned figure and his spouse Arlene Silver, aged 53, along with their pets, had to leave their home. Fortunately, they managed to return and found their missing cat, Bobo, who had run away during the fire incident.
In an interview that aired on the Today show on Thursday, Van Dyke told a local news station that the fire appeared to be originating from the hill and was clearly visible.
‘And oh my God, and we got out of here.’
He revealed he was forced to crawl to his car after exhausting himself trying to use a fire hose, saying: ‘I had exhausted myself, I couldn’t get up.
Three nearby residents rushed over, rescued me, returned, and extinguished a small blaze in the guest house, thereby saving me.
