As a long-time follower of VALORANT esports, witnessing srN’s journey from relative obscurity to becoming a superstar has been absolutely thrilling! The Brazilian prodigy has proven time and again that he’s not just a one-trick pony, but a versatile player with immense potential.

In a recent conversation, esports.gg caught up with srN from MIBR following their successful qualification for the GC Champs Grand Final, having knocked out G2 Gozen in the process.

In a surprising turn of events, reminiscent of past occurrences, MIBR managed to defeat G2 Gozen in the Lower Final of the VALORANT Game Changers Championship 2024. Later on, we had a chat with the standout Duelist from the Brazilian team, Nicolas “srN” Niederauer.

Last year, it was us, Team Liquid, who sent G2 packing. Now, a new Battle Royale squad has seized that glory, advancing to the Grand Final to square off against Shopify Rebellion. I had a chance to sit down with srN and talk about their victory and what we can anticipate in the upcoming showdown.

Note: A portion of the responses were relayed through a translator.

MIBR’s srN says they’re only playing to 50% of their potential

For a prolonged period, Team Liquid dominated the Brazil Game Changers scene. However, MIBR’s recent performance indicates that Brazil is home to more than just one strong team. Given this, should we consider expanding the number of slots next year not only for your region but also for regions like APAC, which demonstrated impressive performances?

Absolutely, we had been considering this for the entire year as it seems more logical. After all, there’s only one available position.

As for Team Liquid, you initially faced difficulties during the early stages of 2024, but managed to flip the script and defeat them three times consecutively, ultimately earning a spot at the Game Changers Championship. Can you explain the shift within MIBR that led to this successful streak against Team Liquid?

srN: “It’s a point we often emphasize. We think it’s best to approach things systematically, from start to finish. Losing to them in the initial phase wasn’t bad at all; in fact, it reminded us of the defeat against G2. It served as an eye-opener, pushing us to play our own game.

Given that this is your initial international LAN tournament, marking your debut at the Game Changers Championship, could you share what this event represents for you personally as a player?

In simpler terms, “srN” expresses a sense of personal pride along with pride for his teammates. However, he also admits to having an unrelenting desire for even greater achievements.

Did you feel any anxiety prior to the game against G2, particularly since our initial victory was secured on the Abyss map? Did this triumph help alleviate your nerves?

In reality, not at all. However, I was quite certain. We frequently discuss strategies for playing under pressure, managing anxiety, and we do have methods for surmounting such feelings.

Indeed, your performance was impressive! You skillfully thwarted Bind’s comeback attempt and outplayed G2 on Sunset, which is no small feat since they are a team of world champions. So, I’m curious, what factors contributed to MIBR managing to sweep them so convincingly?

As I mentioned earlier, during our initial clash with G2, we weren’t quite on our A-game. However, this time around, we successfully adapted to their style of play, and indeed, we were able to pull off a victory!

To clarify, were you aiming to respond to what they were doing instead of sticking to your original strategy as you mentioned?

Absolutely, you’re spot on! We were attempting to foretell events that weren’t materializing. Since we regularly review Video On Demand content, this idea was swirling around in our thoughts. Consequently, this mental exercise led us to engage with their gameplay.

Over the course of three maps, you racked up an impressive 70 kills, with 22 being first bloods. Frankly, you make it seem effortless. Are you confident that you can go head-to-head against another top duelist, Florescent, in the Grand Final?

Absolutely! I’m quite certain about our encounter, yet I must admit, I’m a great admirer of Florescent’s style. I’m genuinely excited for the opportunity to face her, as well as her entire team, promising an enjoyable match for both sides.

It’s fair to assume that prior to this tournament, you weren’t widely recognized beyond Brazil. Now, however, you’re a superstar with an opportunity for eternal recognition. Could you share your thoughts on your performance at the championship thus far and what MIBR needs to do to emerge victorious against Shopify Rebellion?

“I believe I didn’t fully demonstrate my abilities today; this performance represents only about half of what I’m capable of. However, I am quite optimistic for tomorrow’s game. This is because, as I mentioned earlier, we put our trust in the entire process and collectively, we are all feeling rather confident.

“One last follow up then. If you’re playing at 50%, what does 100% look like?”

“Truthfully, there’s much more I need to learn. In both my personal life and as a professional gamer, I still have plenty of room for growth. At just 17 years old, I have a long career ahead of me.
