Robinhood Chain’s real-world assets jump fivefold as tokenized stocks start trading in bigger size

Initially, Robinhood Chain saw a lot of activity around risky, popular meme coins, overshadowing its intended purpose of enabling tokenization.

However, the momentum has finally started to shift, less than two weeks later.

As a crypto investor, I’m really starting to see some traction with real-world assets on the blockchain. DefiLlama reports they’re now worth around $70 million – that’s about five times what it was just recently! Back then, it was only a tiny part of the overall market, around 4%, and memecoins and stablecoins were dominating everything. But now, the tokenized stocks that this tech was *built* for are finally being traded in significant volumes, which is great to see.

As a crypto investor, I’m watching something really interesting happen: tokenized versions of traditional stocks are gaining traction. Right now, GameStop’s tokenized share is trading over $26 million *daily* on the exchange – that’s huge! Nvidia and SpaceX aren’t far behind with around $14 million and $6.4 million respectively. In fact, twelve different stocks originally listed on Robinhood are now seeing over half a million dollars traded in their tokenized forms each day, and five of them are exceeding $1 million. It’s showing me there’s real demand for this kind of fractional ownership through crypto.

When the blockchain network was new, the most popular activity centered around CASHCAT, a cryptocurrency playfully named after Robinhood’s original, unused name. The company was initially called “CashCat” before its founders decided on “Robinhood.” This token, which isn’t affiliated with Robinhood, saw a huge surge – over 1,700% – when CEO Vlad Tenev started following its account, but its value quickly dropped. Now, it’s down around 75% from its highest point, and more people are trading actual stocks and other investments instead.

Since mid-July, the amount of cryptocurrency locked in Robinhood Chain has increased roughly threefold, reaching around $312 million. It’s also become a busy network for trading, now processing over $600 million in daily decentralized exchange volume, placing it among the most active in the crypto space.

The network has seen a lot of activity recently, processing over 138 million transactions in just one month, according to data from Token Terminal. However, despite this high volume, the majority of trading on the chain is still focused on memecoins.

DEX Screener shows that Robinhood Chain’s most popular tokens right now are things like “Hoodrat,” “Vladhood,” and “Swole Doge.” Surprisingly, these aren’t the traditional stocks represented as tokens that the network was designed to handle. Those stock tokens *do* trade on Uniswap, but they don’t have nearly as much trading activity.

These stock tokens trade around $55 million worth each day, which is less than one-tenth of the almost $600 million in overall trading volume on the decentralized exchange (DEX). Most of the remaining trading activity involves meme coins.

As an analyst tracking this blockchain, I’m seeing that stablecoins continue to dominate in terms of overall value – we’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars worth. It’s also interesting to note that the early excitement around memecoins hasn’t faded; coins like CASHCAT, based on the Robinhood mascot, are still very actively bought and sold.

Three weeks ago, critics pointed out that Robinhood invested heavily in its systems but mostly drew speculative traders. There wasn’t much evidence to suggest their plans for offering stock tokens would actually happen.

This initiative is starting to become reality, with assets worth tens of millions of dollars and a significant amount of equity already being traded. However, it’s still relatively small compared to the platform’s stablecoin and memecoin offerings, and needs further expansion to fully achieve Robinhood’s goals for digital asset tokenization.

The data shows that trading activity for the token is increasing, not decreasing, as the company prepares to connect millions of its customers to the blockchain.
