As a die-hard Marvel fan who’s seen every single Spider-Man film multiple times, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard about Spider-Man 4! The fact that it’s being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the man behind Shang-Chi, just adds another layer of anticipation.
In his latest guesting on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, actor Tom Holland casually announced that a fourth Spider-Man movie is indeed in the works. While he kept details scarce regarding the upcoming project, he did share that filming is expected to commence next summer.
Immediately following its announcement, Sony officially verified that Spider-Man 4 is in the works and even disclosed a scheduled release date.
On July 20, 2026, theatergoers can look forward to catching the long-awaited fourth installment of the Marvel blockbuster series. This upcoming film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who is stepping in after the Russo brothers moved on to work on the next Avengers project.
Based on Marvel’s upcoming movie schedule, it appears that the latest Spider-Man film, titled Spider-Man 4, will hit theatres a mere two months after Avengers: Doomsday. This release strategy is reminiscent of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which premiered in cinemas soon after Avengers: Endgame.
In the Spider-Man series starring Tom Holland, the latest movie that hit the screens was titled “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and premiered in December of 2021.
In the fourth movie, there’s an intriguing twist as Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded on a melancholic tone – with Peter sacrificing his memories for everyone to preserve the multiverse. The film ended with Peter considering reappearing to MJ and Ned again, but in the end, he chose not to.
It’s important to clarify that Sony revealed the release date for Spider-Man 4, as they hold the rights to the Marvel character in movies. Interestingly, Sony and Marvel Studios have agreed on a partnership that allows them to co-share the Spider-Man character across the Marvel Cinematic Universe and standalone Spider-Man films. This collaboration seems to be advantageous for both film studios.
The latest Spider-Man film, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” has become the highest earning Spider-Man movie ever, raking in a staggering $1.9 billion at box offices globally. Meanwhile, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” follows closely behind with an impressive $1.1 billion earned worldwide.
